Modifying My Truck Body, Making It More Welder Friendly

I always hated the half a$$ed lead tree that came with my truck and climbing in and out to set up the torches was getting old. Today I did an early job, and started in on cutting up the body on my truck.This is where the torches are now, pain in the a$$ to set up and break down, and I dont like the weight distribution on the truck.Here is the crap I cut off, notice the old lead tree the guy I bought the truck from made, I have always hated it.....New spot cut out for my torch bottlesTime to cut the channel iron for the frame and go weld it up, more pix laterDisclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:tozzi, does your truck have the 6.5? and do you know what gear ratios are in the axles? just curious how the truck does with all the weight. I am about to set up my 95 dually with a flat bed and welder etc.
Reply:Yes a 6.5 turd with whatever the diesel only rear was, I weigh 16,000 and this truck is a slug. I need to drop in a Cummins, or go to a real medium duty truck.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Looks nice!  I would put some plate in from that tire otherwise the tanks are gonna be sitting mud.  Your are right though, you do need a medium duty with all that gear.  I gave up an f550 and went to c7500 back in 03 for a flat bed application and have never looked back.  I will say when you have to buy tires it's a shock though.  6ea  295-75-22.5" ~3k and those were chicom tires.Nice job, I like it, very accessible. I can't tell, can you reach to put the regs on the oxy without a step or climbing? And what if you made a horizontal mount, on top, just to the right of the welder, facing side to side, to store your CO2 cyls? I know you have to stand them up to use them, but just for storage???edit- Looking again, you can probably get one up there.
