Whats the common oxy match for a 145cf acetylene tank. i got a  set from my friend for some gangboxes.    Right now i have what i believe is a 125 cf oxy.    so  2  125 oxy and 2 145 acetylene I am mostly going to using  it for cutting. may play with welding later on but i have a 200 amp mig.    I found some 250 cf oxygen tanks for sale for $100 each and i know my supplier will fill them .  Should i grab em or will i be fine with the 125's ?
Reply:For cutting you will usually go thru 3-4 times the amount of O2 compared to Acetylene. I usually run out my 75 cf Acet at the same time I run out my 282 cf O2 cylinder. I'd go with the larger ones myself given the choice. I almost never use other of my 100 cf O2 cylinders unless I need to be portable..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Thats kinda what i figured.   I had a small 20cf oxygen before with a 40 actylene and it would run out  way too fast.   The supplier is a little ways away and i don't wanna be making a ton of trips.  Its only a few bucks more to fill the bigger one.  Its like 27 for the 125 and i think under 35 for the  250.

At the very least check this out with you local LWS companies before you plunk down the green backed paper. In my area (MA, NH, ME) only MC, B, and 60cf can be exchanged, anything bigger must have owner certification paperwork or none of the vendors will refill it.  No one, period.Anything bigger than "B" Acet or 60 cf Oxy/Non-flammable is distributor owned unless you are a very large user such as a ship yard.  I got bit hard just a couple of years ago when I bought an Oxy and an Acet that were bigger.  I could not get them filled as I had no paper trail showing valid ownership.  Even a receipt from the seller was deemed invalid, the paper trial had to go back to the gas vendor who originally sold the cylinder and the person I bought them from did not have that.  Worse, he refused to accept them back as this was an "as is" sale.   I ended up voluntarily forfeiting them to ArcSource in Seabrook, NH, a total loss on my wallet.  I could not even address this as fraud or theft as there was no way I could prove either so the local cops would not help. I was just plain SOL.      - Mondo
