Well today my uncle came to me with this.Saying it only needs a tack. This being the barrel of a shot gun I'm not too sure on this one. Reply:I'd take it to a proper gunsmith, not sure what damage a simple tack would do and its right on the barrel too, You need to think as well as any arc damage caused by the earth.Might be a brazing repair, but only a gunsmith would know best without damaging or distorting the barrel
Reply:Should be repairable with silver solder. They solder the ribs on shotgun barrels. The biggest concern would be not to get too much heat in the barrel. Reply:I would wrap wet towels around the barrel on both sides of it and run a bead across it with mig. I doubt there would be any distorsion.

Reply:I repair shot guns all the time, depending on where the repair is you can straighten barrels easy, we do it all the time at the gun club I belong to.......As far as the repair if he isn't concerned with getting it BLUED again I have had good results with 308Lstainless.....Just tig it PS don't mig it you will just make a mess........  Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock

Reply:I say replace the barrel and don't mess with it. There are some intense pressures that build up in a gun barrel when a round is fired. Weaken one spot and your risking a nasty kaboom!
Reply:Listen to norite, dollars to donuts that lug is silver brazed and if you TIG it you run large risk of dropping the whole lug off unless you know exactly what you are doing.Experience is something you get right after you need it

Reply:On second glance (my monitor is real dark and it's hard to see dark parts of pics) I now see the crack appears to be in the lug, not a failed solder joint.HOW THE HECK DID IT CRACK IN THE FIRST PLACE?Being that the repair would be on the lug, you might be able to get away with welding it, but I sure wouldn't try. You could end up melting the original joint, warp the barrel, or worse.And if you do weld it, I sure wouldn't let anyone hold it in their hands the first time it's fired after the repair!
Reply:Just wondering, wouldn't the type of force needed to break that in the first place already have had a high probability of warping or in some way damaging the barrel.    The concern that the barrel is already damaged would be just as important as any damage from a repair..
