I was at LWS today and I was pricing a bigger acetylene tank. The salesman asked if I had considered oxy propylene. He stated its properties were close to acetylene but 80% cheaper. Reply:A search on WeldingWeb indicates that you can't weld with propylene. Acetylene, when it burns, creates CO2 that acts as a shielding gas for the puddle. I don't know of any other gases that have this quality.
Reply:No welding with propylene. It cuts fine, but propane cuts just as well, and is cheaper still.
Reply:I have been using it for almost 10 years, it us good stuff. It heats like lava and cuts nice and clean the price is nice as well.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ." |
