hey guys. i have a miller big 20 CC Dc welding generator engine driven. has 120v receptacles on it but it says it can be converted to 230v if needed. what is out there that i could run off it, maybe a mig or tig that i can take on the job with me. this is my mobile welding setup now and looking to be ble to do a little more with it. thank you
Reply:What is the aux power wattage output for that machine? Most decent sized 230v migs will want at least 25-30 amps which means you'd need between a 6Kw and 7Kw output to run full power. Being it's only a 120v aux power machine, I'm guessing the KW rating is pretty low, maybe 3kw max. That's not going to let you run much if that is the case..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:All you have enough power for is lights and grinders etc. I think that that machine is only capable of 15 amps on the 110 circuits
Reply:Yeah I think so. So basically I can run a 110 mig? Are the new bobcats or anything able to handle a bigger machine? My buddy has a millermaric 140 that does a nice job and has an option for a spool gun to do aluminum. Any thoughts on that?
Reply:What about running an ln25 off of it?
Reply:from what i understand its bascially the equivalent of an sa200? i cant afford to get a new machine at this point. ill have to work with what i got for now
Reply:yes 15 or 20 i forgot. its a great machine for mobile work. the 4cylinder continental runs great. just wish it had a gmaw option i could run but o well

Reply:thanks for the help dsw. so being my machine is a cc dc machine what would i have to buy to have a setup for fcaw?
Reply:All you need is a voltage sensing feeder. Lincoln LN-25, Miller S-32P, 8VSor 12VS, Hobart Hefty etc.You connect the ground to the work, and the feeder to the hot from the machine ( polarity depends on the wire you are running) and clamp the little voltage sensing lead from the feeder to the work as well. That's it. I want to be clear on this. FC from this rig will be a hot process. Don't expect to be doing steel less than say 1/4". This is NOT FC wire like you get from a small 110v or 230v mig. Also in spray, out of position welds like vertical and overhead are a PITA to do as the process is hot and can be very runny. If you are doing heavy structural steel, then this is a good option. If you are looking for a general purpose "mig" this is not going to do what you want it to most likely.  Even though this will work, it still runs better if you have the unit hooked up to a CV power source instead of a CC machine like you have.A used VS feeder will set you back $500-800 depending on age and model. That's in the ball park for a nice used 230v mig or a lower end new 230v mig..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:oh ok thanks. my buddy is selling his ln25 so i was curious if it could run off my machine. im mainly in the field doing farm equipment repair plows etc.. some is heavy gauge material some is not
Reply:It should run off your machine. If he's got it and he's got some FC wire, give it a try and see if it will do what you want it to. CEP can probably give you some suggestions about settings and so on.LN 25's though tend to go for more money than most used feeders. Part of it is the reputation they've built over the years, just like some guys are willing to spend insane amounts of money on old beat to death SA 200's..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:well hes a close friend of mine and only paid 500 for it
