husky air compressor whos got one

i need to get a bigger air compressor than the 25 gallon i have and would love a 80 gallon 2 stage but that's not in the cards right now ive been looking at the husky they have at home depot for 400 its a 60 gallon single stage does anyone have this unit if so how do you like it my next choice if i can swing it is  a HF us general rebuilt 60 gal 2 stage but even with a coupon its still another 250 bucks any comments on either would be great thanks350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off

Reply:HD compressors are on the low end of the quality scale.  They no longer put the horsepower on them, I think the got bagged with a false advertising claim at some point.  I have one, 60 gal upright tank and (supposedly) 6 or 6 1/2 HP.  Games can be played with HP ratings, but not amperage ratings.  The  motor on this one draws (IIRC) 15 amps, this is the running load and has to be legitimate by code.  The HP spot on the spec plate says something like "Special rating", so the compressor manufacturer rates them at HP developed at stall speed.  So, just for a minute, when it's tongue is hanging out and prior to the smoke coming out, it produces a theoretical 6+ HP.  The motor is actually something like 4 HP at a contunuous load and the pump, which has been replaced once when it siezed, and has had two new valve plates and is now tired again, is what is commonly used on 5 HP compressors.Do not walk away,,, RUN, as fast as you can from this light duty crap.
Reply:You have a Lowes down there now?? They have a line called Kobalt or similar. Just looking they don't look too bad. Some discontinuities in there sizing and pricing makes one or two models look pretty good. They may not be worth a hoot but on the surface they look as good as the rest.

Reply:I have had a kobalt 6hp 60 gallon for almost two years with no trouble at all.It runs about 2 - 3  hours a day 6 days a week,running die grinders, bead blasters and painting equipment

Reply:I don't know if Tractor Supply Company operates down your way but their prices are better than Northern on the I-R compressors.  They have a 7.5 hp single phase that I want to replace my HD junker with at some point.
Reply:When I was young my mother would by me Husky sized pants since I was a little husky.  Now I won't buy anything with a Husky name on it.
