Hydraulic Fluid Tank..

Good customer of ours dropped off a hydraulic tank that goes on his Gradall...He was having someone come and do this in the field but the last time whoever repaired it..well it suffered failure..The sides split down the middle of the weld so...........Now it's my turn..Had to lay it down on it's side without wrecking any of the connectors or fittings so a couple of 4X6'S were put into play..Pics show the split..It was split on both sides so much grinding was needed before anything else..Next post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:So after grinding all the old weld off it was a straight forward weld repair job..I don't think the original weld was ground before the first repair..Just welded over so it all had to go.Nothing like this kind of fun @ 7 AM...There was some fluid on the floor after it got repaired from a loose cap fitting but there was no explosions or fires or anything like that...1/16" 70S-2..3/32" Red..Machine on "Kill"..Chair and pedal in use..Pics are out of order..3'RD one down is pass # 1...I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:The field repair weld didn't look that bad..... except for the split down the middle......Other than possibly not removing paint...... the weld that broke looked like it was done by someone who knew something about welding......Question is...... since it was done in the field... likely with Stick....... why did it really fail?......What makes the multipass TIG job in the shop better?
