Hi,I am a car hobbist looking to learn tig for mostly alum. and mild steel welding.I am interested in opinons on what appeares to be offshore tig welders for sale on ebay.Thanks.
Reply:Welcome Some are ok, but if anything goes wrong with one you will have a BIG problem getting parts!!!! What do you need it to do, and what is important to you?Me!
Reply:I do work on some open wheel race cars from time to time and also build new parts occasionally out of alum or mild steel.Since I dont own any welder now I think a tig would be a good all around tool.I also would like to build a chassis for a kit car this winter.
Reply:Well after looking I went with a Miller Syncrowave 200. I have no complaints at all. I looked at the cheaper imports and the "what is something goes wrong with one" thought kept coming into my head. The Econotig is also a good unit but the Syncrowave 200 is not that much more. If money is no object than the Dynasty 200 Series are very nice welders and PORTABLE!Me!

Reply:I have one of the chinese ebay inverter types. I wouldn't rely on it for a living but it seems to be doing a good job for the hobby stuff I use it for (it is a much better welder than I am!)The particular seller I brought it off is a little different from the average ebay store - has a shopfront nearby, offers a warranty, stocks spares and offers a repair service. All this gave me a little more peace of mind that if something went wrong, I might have some chance of salvaging it. Hopefully I will never have to test that out tho.
Reply:Only buy american. You can save alot on used ones
Reply:from the sounds of it you need to get a 200amp machine .you could get a smaller one but you will be looking at a biger soon afterChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
