Some of you guys saw one of the first small lamps I made and I enjoyed doing it. So I decided to make a larger one.Smaller one: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...highlight=lampThis time I used 5" square stock 1/8" wall. Too bad for me my bandsaw won't cut 5" square so I had to pay someone $40 to cut it. Made a little jig so each piece was pretty close to the one below it. It's not perfectly straight as it's not supposed to be anyway, but it's pretty close. I'm happy with it.Did this all with the mig as it was pretty quick. Hardest part was coming up with a basic jig. I have one light facing down and facing up. At this point, I'm not sure where to go with it. Need to find someone with a large sandblaster and have it powdercoated. Undecided on the color. Also not sure if it should stand up or be horizontal on a wall. Also unsure of what color bulbs to put in.Btw the pic was taken with all the lights off except that one, so it has a nice effect on the walls. Reply:How big is it? I'm having trouble getting a sense of scale.Edit: Never mind, guess I should have read your post closer.
Reply:It's 32" inches tall.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Cool !  First mistake, you should have gone and bought a BIGGER SAW !!!!!  Kidding. That is super cool.  That maybe a item for a night club , bar or fancy restaurant .   I think you should hang horizontal and take a pic. That maybe something for above a vanity in the bathroom.    I would build one but I TOO would have to buy a BIGGER saw !!!!
Reply:You must be proud! That is very excellent! The design is outstanding , it gives an awesome light effect.PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClamps
Reply:I like it.  Paint it a darker brownish color with some texture in it.  I like it upright like you have it as well.  Maybe on the backside weld a tube to hide the wires in and have it come out the bottom.  Also, maybe use a longer light?  LED's or flouresent?  Just my .02¢---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:I thought about a longer light, just not sure what would work well. Any ideas on what? It's going to be a bitch to cut out the bracket that holds both of those sockets in there lol.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:If it goes in a corner why not a 48" florsecent standing up in it?
Reply:Looking good.Sandblast it. Clearcoat it. Put a flourescent tube in it.
Reply:I like this bigger version a lot more. It's awesome.  It definitely looks like it belongs in high-end club or casino.  I think it would look cool with a bunch mounted down a wall or columns in a walkway. I am Definitely going to make one of these.

When I'm doing a forged project, I usually build it in several segments, then weld them together, leaving only the welded areas to finish.
Reply:I've spent alot of time at Ground Zero in NYC and your lamp fits in perfectly with the look and feel of the new tower and memorial park. You should be proud.
Reply:Thanks for the tips Steve! I really need to come hang out with you and get some tutelage. So you think I should leave the standard bulb and just switch it to an incandescent bulb? Or change the bulb idea to something completely different?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:Hmm? By me I have a place called Speed World and right up the road there's a place called Big Boys Toys that deal with that, they deal with all drag racing, import and truck stuff so it would be easy for me. But being in Chicago bud i'm not sure. I guess you just gotta find a place locally that deals with that kinda stuff. Would be a nice touch tho! Reply:VERY cool lamp! I like both the smaller and larger one. A LED strip that changes colors might be very cool for a nightclub/bar use...or even a home- can see that in a bar area around a pool or in a high end back yard garden area. Something like this....(not sure if this one specifically is waterproof but many on this site are):http://www.elementalled.com/color-ch...light-bar.html

Reply:Very nice, I wonder would it work if you also could make one useing round tube instead of square tubing?Lots of variations could be made.
Reply:I want to! I have tons of ideas, just not enough money or time.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Got my remote controlled lights in today! They are pretty nice, even if they are only a huge 3 watts I had them set at the same time and after a few minutes they went out of sync by less than half a second. No big deal. It looks like the center is dark, but if you are looking at it straight on it's not. Next I need to find a place I can get more 5" square tube of 1/8" wall or less (if anyone knows where let me know please) and to paint this.15 second video here!-->CLICK ME<--Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal DealerI didn't know that.
