Has anyone welded their own side steps up for a truck? I'm intetested in making my own for my truck out of tubing I have lying around and a bunch of other metal scraps I have laying around? Anything you guys have seen or made yourself? I tried the search function, but didn't really find what I was looking for. Thanks in advance.Truck is a 2000 K2500.-Patsent from somewhere in Minnesota...Last edited by AMWelder89; 05-05-2013 at 06:07 PM.

Reply:Maybe there's a rock slider design I can find that I'll like...I don't typically go "offroading" a whole lot. The most my truck sees of offroad is going back on the logging roads and back in some areas when my little cousin gets stuck and can't get one of his friends to pull him out. My truck wasn't made for mudding or rock crawling, it was made for hauling and towing.-Patsent from somewhere in Minnesota...

Reply:Are you looking to do "rock sliders" or ?I have some 3-1/2" SS tubing with a couple of elbows welded on lying around. Someday project didn't happen (truck is gone).

Reply:Make them wheel well to wheel well, so you can step on the rear to reach the truck bed (tool box)I would like to make some that have a spring loaded step for my '97 f350Some diamond plate on top would be nice also
Reply:I've made several usually from pipe/90's that are sitting around.Good gussets on the bottom reduce flex. I weld them to the truck frame.I don't normally need "rock sliders" on a welding rig, they can bring a dozer if I can't break over without destroying my truck. But it see's some fairly rough terrain for a one ton, and make sure you leave enough clearance that your "steps" don't kiss the body when you're crossed up and flexed in a ditch. They'll reduce your clearance a bit but like was said, it's not a recreational rock crawler it's a working truck.JT

Reply:Not so much looking for rock sliders. I am looking more for just steps, but the rock slider do look good and it's a good idea. I don't "offroad" the truck. The closest it sees it logging roads and dirt trails. I may go with a slider design, that will function as steps. All suggestions and comments welcomed!-Patsent from somewhere in Minnesota...
Reply:Why don't you just put running boards on it?Safety 3rdGump

Reply:I didn't make these but I was going to before I started working more hours than I had time for. They would be fairly simple to build and the protect the bottom of your body a little bit. A mix between nerf bars and the hoop steps. I have a pair on my Ram 2500 and I love them. http://www.n-fab.com/gallery/?&photoGalleryID=54
