Hey guys I am new to the site and am looking to buy a tigI have been leaning toward the Lincoln precision 185 or 225.Is there any big difference besides the amperage and acouple of bells and whistles? I plan on 3/16 a1/4" aluminumat the most along with some steel of course. Will my 30 amp breaker be ok and 10 gauge from my panelwork? Help!!!
Reply:For 3/16" and 1/4" aluminum you will want a bigger welder, the 225 is only rated at 100% duty cycle at 90 amps.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:To do 1/4" alum you need to be looking at a machine with at least 250 amps of output. Maxed out that 225 will do 3/16", but the duty cycle will be very low. If you plan on feeding the machine a steady diet of 3/16" alum, you need to go to a larger machine.30 amps won't be enough to do alum that thick. You can probably do 14 ga steel on 30 amps, but once you start trying to do thicker stuff you will start tripping the breaker..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
