I been cleaning my contact tips by placing them in a hand drill's chuck and running it against some emery cloth. It seems to work, but am I screwing anything up or lessening the effectiveness of the tips? Just wondering if anyone else has tried this.

Reply:Come on guys, replacement tips cost next to nothing. A new replacement tip will perform BETTER than a sanded down and drilled out one. You'll save precious time by just swapping on a brand new one. If you want the tip to clean up easily and last longer, forget drilling and sand paper. Instead, dip a clean tip into some nozzle gel, prior to welding. When your done welding, a paper towel is all that's needed to wipe the tip clean. No offense here, we're all grown ups but drilling and sanding a mig tip is akin to trying to figure out a way to recycle used toilet paper.
