Spray Welding Torch Kit

I have purchased several powder spray torches in order to identify the best unit to suit my needs. It is now time to sell/trade the units I've collected. I have torches from the following manufacturers: Eutectic(Eutalloy) Maintenance Welding Supply, Cast Welding Technoligies, Cronation Welding. These units all share a similar application process...Oxy-Acet fuel and a torch with a powder hopper that distributes a finely dispersed alloy powder that is "Sprayed" onto the object being welded. These units do a very good job for build up, shaft repair, hard facing, and damage repair. Many various alloy powders are available that will produce the desired result and vary in Rockwell hardness from RC18-RC65. I have a large assortment of most powders currently available. I use this Spray Welding Process to repair damaged, cracked and otherwise worn cast iron components. I.E. exhaust manifolds, heads, blocks etc. etc. They offer the fastest deposit rates of new metal without the need for excessive preheat and post-cool.I have several photos of the before and after repairs made using these torches. If you are interested let me know what you would like to use the torch for and I would be glad to comment on the viability. These units can be used to apply powders/weld most weldable materials such as aluminum,brass cast iron,copper,steel,tool steel, Tungsten,etc. etc. All trade offers consideredThanks for looking,Ric
Reply:Although I have never done any of it, I always wanted to be able to build up shafts that have been grooved by a spun bearing or something of that nature and then machine it back to orignial size.  I would like the chance one day to be able to see it done.
Reply:Hi,I have several photos of in process jobs being done with the torches. I would gladly send to you, they however are of engine components not shafts. What type of shafts might you be referring to? There are two specialized torches designed just for shaft build up/repair that rest on a tool-post support on  your lathe and from there you simply load the powder and traverse the shafts length until the desired build up is complete.  The shaft never reaches over 500 F. therefore the distortion is very minimal if at all. Depending on the hardness required and the powder user you can at that point you can machine to the desired diam. or grind to spec if the powder used is of extreme hardness. Reply:Some of the shafts I have seen that needed repair come from a saw mill.  They were 1 15/16" shafting 12', 14', and 20' shafts.  They have toothed sprockets spaced at different measurments and are driven by chains.  Sometimes the bearing will let go and it will score the shaft making it slopply.  The sprocket has to come off, the shaft built up and turned back down to size and a new bearing installed.  Like I meantioned before, I have never done any of this but would like to see the process done. What would you be asking for a setup to be able to do shafting like I just described?  I might be interested.

Reply:Hello LuzRD,Are you interested in torches for shaft build up using a lathe to rotate the shaft? That is one torch used exclusively for that purpose. The torches I originally posted are for build up and repair of various metals and are hand held just as you would use a Oxy/Acet. torch with a powder hopper integral with the torch. Which would you be looking for??? I do have both styles however I've a lot more experience with the latter metioned. I thank you for the info on posting pictures I will make some time this evening and post a few pictures of the process and unit used to repair a couple of engine components to a least allow you a basic idea of what I have.Have a great week,Ric Havel
