This is a sheep shearing machine made mostly out of bunk bed frames.  The ramp and boxes are all made from the bed frames.  If I bought a machine it would have cost me 25,000 dollars.  I have about 500 dollars so far out of pocket. To be fair the $25,000 has a better paint job!   And some of the funtions are more automated. These are a friend of mines sheep. He didn't know I had built this machine.  After he saw me shear the first of his sheep he asked if he could shear his sheep.  He thought he could do it. I let him try one and he quickly handed me the job back.  Using the shearing handpiece is not so easy as it looks.  One wrong move and the sheep can be cut in the skin.
Reply:Is it a table and restraints that turns horizontally to hold the sheep while you rotate it on the axis and reach each part of the animal?    Veterinarians here use such a device to examine animals.  I'd like to see a few more ipictures ~minus the sheep maybe~ and see what you have createdthanks, BretLincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools

Reply:OK, that just made my day right there! That's some funny $hit!Looks like something you'd see on an old bugs bunny cartoon. After the shave, you could build a fire underneath!!! My first thought, from the title, was you were making the blades from bed frame rails.!!!! So I was thinking "poor sheep" and "you cheap bastards"!!!!Nicely done.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Reply:2 blokes and a machine to hold down a sheep? you guys would go out of business pretty quick in australia.....if they squirm too much you give them a good tap on the skull with the blunt side of the shears, and if you cut them you stitch em up on the spot then send them down the shute and grab the next one
Reply:Actually, Stamp, every big sheep outfit I know of here in the states, whether California, Nevada, Arizonia, Utah,,,,,,   imports Australian shearers.  None better.   Good money for them, too, all costs are taken care of; shelter, food, wimmen, health care, etc. etc.   Even the airplane tickets.
Reply:JSFAB,New Captain with the foreign legion took over an outpost out in the desert.During inspection with his First Sergeant, he came upon an old camel tied up behind the mess hall.  Turned to the First Sergeant and says, Top, that nasty beast has to go.  Top replies, Sir, I wouldn't recommend that.  Might cause real problems with the men and their physical needs.Anyway, a couple of months pass and the Captain is getting "really hard up".  Slips out back to behind the mess hall.  Sure nuff, camel is tied up there.  Captain rolls up a 55gal drum, climbs on top,  does his thing.  Dang camel barely squeals.About the time the Captain is pulling up his drawers, the First Sergeant comes around the corner.  Captain says to First Sergeant.  Well Top, that how the men do it?First Sergeant replies.  Well, not exactly Sir.  Normally they just hop on her and ride her to the whorehouse in the next oasis over that there hill.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:you're right mate, its a young man's game and i take my hat off to you for shearing at 58. I worked the shearing sheds when i was in my teens and i thought it was hard yakka then. never had to work with black faced sheep but i have heard they can be a handful.do you get problems with flyblown sheep in europe?
Reply:Not so much flyblown but blue tongue has crippled the sheep industry in Germany.Another thing here the wool is not worth anything.  Shearing is just an expense.  A maintenance situation.  We pay between 3 and 5 Euro's per head to have them shorn.  A little less on large mobs.   The small farmer has trouble to get someone to shear his sheep.
Reply:B&R So??? ya' got more pics  rounded up.  We'd like to see this thing up close and personal  Is it a table that rotates  Oxymoron especially, he plans to take notes.  enjoyps; a bit too early 4 jokes, got to have coffee first, but the camel one ain't bad at all. oh well just one> How do you tell the buck goats from the does on a goat diary??? Reply:No more pictures sorry.  I had knee surgery this morning so I am not getting around so good. The sheep is tipped over onto two 6 inch rollers.  This allows me to roll the sheep easily from one side to the other.
Reply:good luck with your recovery mate

Reply:That has to be the most impressive animal handler I've ever seen. That poor sheep doesn't have a clue what's going on! I'm thrilled you found a way to keep doing what you have been. And even more impressive is that you built it yourself. Good for you and very nice job.Originally Posted by KavallThat has to be the most impressive animal handler I've ever seen. Reply:That's still a neat machine.    I've followed the build on another site.   I had no idea that you started with bed frame angle iron! How in the world do you keep track of what each of those foot pedals do?   I'd be afraid that I'd push the wrong pedal and twist the poor sheep in half.Keep up the good work.Dan

Reply:holy crap . I guess I'm really from the city. I have never seen anything like that before. That type of stuff doesn't mess the animals up? I was thinking some kind of alien autopsy stuff.
Reply:Let's just all agree he ate a lot of sheep meat while getting the speeds figured out on those hydraulics and learning the foot pedals. But look at it now!
