No wood at all this time.I do have a question, though. It's a stand for a bench drill - mostly made from scraps. It's on wheels so I can move it around. And I've made it so all the shavings fall through into a collection tray that slides out.But I reckon the drill is now too high. Is there a standard height for the drilling platform (if that's what it's called)? Maybe it seems high because it has spent the last couple of years on the floor. Attached ImagesYeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:So shoulder height for the middle of the handles?I'll have to have a go at drilling something and see if it feels awkward. The thing certainly feels high, but I'm not keen on cutting that cart down seeing as how I did such a good job making it.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:Scott, I just measure my three similar contraptions, the capstans are 54", 56" and 58"."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Hi Sandy,So just between you and me, is the capstan that three pronged handle thingy? And your measurements - in those quaint inches - would be from the floor to the centre of the three pronged handle thingy?I have a feeling I'll be cutting those legs down.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.

Reply:I'm home now.Definitely too high - by about 200mm.I'll have to break it to the guy next door. He helped me lift it onto the cart and when I asked him whether he reckoned it was too high he said,  'Nah, it's perfect.' I know now why he said that over his shoulder as he ran out the back gate.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:I like the chip tray.   Looks like a very nice project.  Are you going to bolt the drill down to the cart?   Drills tend to be pretty top heavy and with it on a moving cart it could lead to a bad moment in the future.
Reply:Looks like a pretty good height for an abrasive chop saw though.Good excuse to just build another one for the drill Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:That is a neat idea. I agree, just gives you a reason to build another one for the drill and get the abrasive chop saw mounted up on that one, maybe add a backing plate to catch sparks and metal dust. Nice job.
Reply:I agree with Dave, chop saw would be perfectthat really is a great idea, nice work, don't mind if I copy do yaGeorge
