got me thinking I should build a couple. This is an end table I built from some junk I had laying around. Legs are 1 1/2" x 1/8" angle, top perimeter is 2" x 1/8" angle. I did some fake rivets using a 5/16" top punch and a 9/16" bottom punch in the ironworker after reading about it here. The top is a piece of maple work bench top that was left over from a job, that i milled around the edge so the angle sits flush. I lurk here a lot and thought I would try and post some pictures (finally). I also made the lamp, bent up the base from 12 ga, welded 4 pieces of 1/2" round to act as feet and used 1 1/2" tube for the post. Reply:Very nice. I've always liked the look of old riveted iron work. I may have to think about doing something like that..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:Sounds funny hearing about all these welders that like rivits. My dad was a welder before the big one. He started out in rivits. He said that when welding took off every rivet man he knew was in love with welding.. Some things change some remain the same. Mac

Reply:I LOVE old bridges (although I hate hights) anyway.... Here in Chattanooga we have a, old wood floor bridge that is referred to the "Walking Bridge"... every time I get a chance to walk across it..I have to check out how it was built, the rivets, the bolts, the long connecting linkages, the gussets, the welds...everything... I really like those tables... Reply:Wow, those are super nice. That's a real nice balance of form and function. Find some more of that "junk" and make a few more of those....people will pay ridiculous amounts of money for that kind of work.

Reply:I recall my dad telling me once (years ago) about how the railways around here were having to go to great efforts to replace a lot of older wooden bridges because in their constant efforts to get rid of anyone they can, they had gotten rid of anyone who had the knowledge / skills of how to build / repair them.things as commonplace as a bridge can be quite amazing constructions
