Mig welder?

I'm sure you guys will slam me for this but looking at a mig welder to weld some rocker panels for my truck. I don't want to go buy a $900+ unit that i'll only use few times. Reply:You'll end up using it more than you think you need it...spend the money once now rather than twice later.

Reply:Depending on how much welding to you it may take 2 or 3 HF welders. Choose wisely.
Reply:I welded with the mig170 and it was a decent little welder, I am sure the 180 model is better. Get a decent sized cylinder 125cf + and some lincoln wire, Harbor freight mig wire sucks and their flux cored is decent for putting scrap together. Check out youtube for reviews of that welder.
Reply:A friend at work suggested a Hobart. And also mentioned that you'd be surprised on how much you weld if you had one. Looking at prices they aren't too bad and did watch reviews and read some reviews.HF will not be bought. Reply:Depending on your location, check craigs list. The 110 volt mig are always listed near me. People buy them and either use them for a few hours or decide they don't need a welder. I would not get less then a 140 machine , it's sad  because after you buy a small one you then decide to go larger. You can't use amps you don't have. Reply:Hobarts EZmig is a fluxcore only machine. You will want a machine capable of using gas and solid wire to do a decent job on body panels. The next step up, the Hobart HH 125 is the same size machine, but will accept the gas hook up.FC wire is too hot to easily do thin sheet. You'll want to run .024 solid wire and 75/25 gas to do what you want to.Take a minute to add your location to your profile so we know where you are at. Some one here may know of a deal and pass it on to you if they know you are close. A lot of guys here browse CL regularly. Also another option might be to look into a night class in body shop at a local high school or Votec school. Most are more than willing to let students work on their own projects as long as they aren't going to tie up the shop. You'd have access to better tools and equipment as well as the instructors knowledge to make things go smoother and faster..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I needed a machine for sheet metal on my old cars. I bought the Millermatic 140. I love it. It's perfect for sheet metal. I see used ones on craigslist all the time around me.
