And by new.... I mean in the last 3 weeks.........I realize this type of thing has been posted before....... I searched and read one from Lanse.....Here's my issue:Working on 5G pipe..... 6" Sch 40..... Passed bend tests and having a good time....... now instead of capping in 2 with 1/8" 6010.... trying to cap in 1 with 5/32" 6010....... just to get the feel of the industry standard size electrode........Same hood.... same passive lens..... same plastic protective covers (I change them often)....... and sometimes with and sometimes without a 2.5 cheater........Sometimes I see double..... sometimes I see 9.... no joke.......If the plastic lens is scratched because I'm trying to get the smoke haze off.... I start to see double so I change it..... brand new plastic cover... issue gone.... no plastic cover.... issue gone....The cover is the problem I have deduced....... however..... I can barely make a single pass on one side of the pipe before I start seeing double....By far the most frustrating thing because I can't see where I'm going.......I don't know about you.... but when I can't see where i'm going because I have 7 puddles to look at.... it's hard to pass the visual inspection on the weld.........Do they make glass cover lenses? I'm thinking that my eyes have gotten tired lately since I go to class late at night and it's making it worse...... I'm wondering if a glass cover lens would help...ideas?Last edited by Fexal; 11-03-2014 at 10:06 PM.Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Sorry to hear this. My problems generally occur when doing wire welding because of the dim arc. Stick is the only thing I can see well these days"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:One thing that may help. Load your hood with a clear plastic lens out front. Gasket, then your colored lens, then a clear glass lens on top of the colored lens. The idea is to cut down on the amount of plastic you're looking through.None of my local welding supplies carry clear glass lenses, I bought a bunch from Phillips Safety. Another thing that might help, blink a lot, so your eyes readjust. http://www.phillips-safety.com/weldi...-2-x-4-25.htmlDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Thanks all..... I'll check my LWS for some glass lenses as well as some glass cheaters...... I think cutting down on plastic will help...This also happens mostly in the booth at school (it didn't used to).... but the walls are bright and that may be adding to it.....At home I don't have the issue.... nor do I have it outdoors........My eye sight is certainly getting worse.... 20/20 in one eye.... 20/50 in the other... and something called Optic Disc Drusen which means my Peripheral vision is slowly going away in my right eye.....But I think there is surely a simple fix for this immediate issue....If you find any glass covers, let me know... I'm happy to buy them from you to give that a shot at fixing the issue.............Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:I have had this problem before, and I'm positive it was because I have most of my hoods loaded with glass gold #10's. Pull out the protective lens even with the gasket and it goes away. Something with the gold reflecting off of the clear is what causes it for me. I don't recall ever having a problem with a standard type lens. Are you using gold by any chance?I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:I don't like my lens and lens covers separated with any air space. In my opinion, the light reflects and gives "ghost" images - which I don't like.I sandwich them tight together.I have two helmets that have the flip up lens with the inner plastic cover to protect my eyes during chipping and grinding. That set-up gives me "ghost" images - when I take out the inner plastic cover, the problem goes away.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:CEP, I bought every 2x4 clear glass that my lws had in stock a few years back when they told me they can no longer sell glass after there inventory was empty. 72pcs all together, in one box. I brought them to work and had them in my locker, and somebody stole the whole box. Never got to use one. At first I refused to believe one of my partners would steal from me and that maybe I had misplaced them, but to no avail. People suck! Reply:I don't think you'll like glass out front. Splatter will kill the glass fast. Use plastic out front, and use a piece of flannel cloth to clean the plastic lens.
