Reply:Looking good.  For a camera, you may want to consider a digital SLR.  There are quite a few (even budget friendly) SLRs that take great video.  Then you have the ability to take better stills, plus video and the flexibility of different lenses.  IMO, way better investment that a video camera.  You'd be surprised how many videos are actually being shot with photography cameras now....Good entry level with a lens ~$650:http://usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/p...55mm_is_ii_kitOf course goes up from there depending on what you want to spend/features.What kind of plasma table are you gettting?  I'm building a 4x8' here soon.  Parts should start showing up tomorrow.  I bought a Precision Plasma gantry with CandCNC electronics.Last edited by kazlx; 05-14-2013 at 10:24 AM.

He was an amazing photographer and probably could have set me up with a sweet camera for cheap. I'm going to have to keep it around a few hundred bucks on the budget for now. I got an Arc Light Dynamics ArcPRO 9600. AVHC, water table, computer, software, Hypertherm P-max 65, engraver, and tube cutter.Should be here next month.

Reply:Looking good man!  A little tip for ya... When using an iPhone to shoot video of your welds and you move the phone in closer to pick up the detail, simply touch the area viewable on your phone's screen that you want to focus in on, and the iPhone will re-focus for you.GarLincoln Electric, Power MIG 256Hypertherm Powermax 45 Miller Dynasty 280DXSmith O/A torchGenesis of a welding table

Reply:Get a canon camera because they usually have good macros. Check the first pics on the slideshow on my site. The video in macro mode looks exactly the same. The camera I bought was a 16 mega pixel 16x optical zoomCanon SX160 IS. It was like $150 and $30 for a high speed 32gb SD card. Excellent camera, you won't findanything nicer for the price. I bough it specifically for taking very high quality close up pictures of welds andother projects. Here's a couple cropped macro pics. These are not zoomed in, just pasted into a 1024x768 frame and the vast majorityof the image at the edges being cropped. And just for fun, here's the zoom capability.A resized picture of the moon and Jupiter (at the bottom right) through clouds. And a cropped but not resized picture of Jupiter and 3 of it's large moons (presumably Io, Europa, and Ganymede)taken with a tripod and no additional optics or anything.Last edited by MikeGyver; 05-20-2013 at 03:16 AM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
