I just bought a miller dynasty 200 machine only  and I need a tig torch.   How are they sized? I see there are size 9-25.   What would you recommend for this machine? i see there are many different style and makes.   Im going to do a gas cooled torch for now since I'm just getting started in tig welding.    Also what type of tungsten should i run in an inverter ?  Thank you!

Reply:Another vote for the CK torches. they have a higher duty cycle than say Millers Weldcraft torches and cost less. The CK 9 size torch has almost the same duty cycle of Millers bigger 17 size torch. The real question is what you plan to do and how many amps you are going to use. Knowing that, we can give you a better idea what might be best..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:I have always used 17 size, and enjoy my basic, non-flexing CK.the flexi weldcraft I use at normal work has got tape all over it and between the handle and torch itself to stay tight enough to be able to actually hold the handle and not have the torch point wherever the cable wants it to. but it has served me and the guy that had that truck before me for a combined 7 years or so.I sometimes contemplate going up to a 26 as even the 17 gets too hot for a gloved hand when doing a bunch of socket-weld at 120+ amps all daybosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:I am just looking to practice/ learn tig welding maybe  do a few projects.   I have a 200 amp mig and stick welder to do the repairs i normally do.    I have always wanted to try tig welding and i picked up a used  machine at a great price.   However i do not know much about  the torch parts and tungsten
Reply:my problem is that i work for an old-school company. i have never used anything but red 2% thoriated tungsten, but all i do is dc. i think the only ac aluminum we do is with old green pure stuff on an old lincoln.parts are easy at your local welding shop. i still haven't deciphered that mess, but here is what i do know when i go to buy.i want a 17 size torchi want a medium gas lensi want collets to fiti want a button capdont forget my spacerno, 3/32" tungsten is all i usethe cheapo handle will work finecouple 6's, 7's, and 8's for cups pleasethats it really, aside from the hose/cablebosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:A gas cooled 9 will get pretty hot unless you are only welding 16 ga stuff. Go with a 17 or a trimline 200A torch from CK. It is nearly the size of a std 17 but is rated at 200A. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:I would recommend the CK Flex-Lock torch. The variable locking angles is great. Makes a flex head torch able to "walk the cup".  For the Dynasty 200, torch will match the duty cycle. Call the people at CK Worldwide. They will give you good advice on what you need to get your Dynasty working.
