I am in the market to buy a new machine.  I mainly stick weld, but was considering the Bobcat 250 and the Ranger GXT since they are both AC-DC machines.  Need some input from you every day Pro's
Reply:Welcome and flip a coin.   JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:What do you do? What do you want to do down the road?  Both are questions you should ask yourself. If you want to TIG aluminum, buy a Trailblazer for the remote. If you do lots of code work stick (pipe, structural), upgrade to a Ranger 250/305, it has a much better arc. If you just do stuff around the house/farm, flip the coin.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I own a Bobcat.  If the choice is between a Bobcat 250 and a Ranger GXT, I would get the Ranger.   Both machines are AC/DC, CC/CV and both make 10,000 watts or more generator power, but that is where the similarities end.  The Bobcat does not have a contactor or remote receptacle, and there is no optional kit to add them later.  If you choose the Bobcat now and decide later you need those features, you'll have to upgrade to another machine.  The Ranger comes with remote amperage control receptacle already on it and there is a contactor kit you can get as an option later if you decide you want to TIG, or MIG with a remote-control feeder.   The more expensive Trailblazer has all that and is a better competitive match for the Ranger.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I've welded gas mains to fossil plants and now nuclear and in my expierience the miller is best fit for the shop all the way. The lincoln is the best for gas drive and if you want to get real buy the diesel, it has a very smooth arc.

Reply:lincoln is hard to beat for field repairs ,ive got a lincoln sam 400 , and my fathers got miller , i swear by lincoln he swears by miller , personal preference i guess
Reply:another thing to consider is dealer support.  If you have a problem with the machine, who is going to give you the best support, and which one is closer or more convenient to get to.
Reply:I use both in the shop and have used both in the field over the years (40 to be exact and I'm really not that old, heheh). The Trailblazer is a good machine, but it's still not a Lincoln and doesn't weld like a Lincoln. As for the Bobcat - it's a damn good generator. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
