Okay, so heres the deal. I need a front frame clip off of a truck in a guys "junkyard", the deal is that if I pull it and all its 200 bucks and if he pulls it it becomes 300 bucks. Is there a small torch I can buy (20-30 bucks?) that would actually benefit me in this? I figure those butone torches at lowes and all aren't going to cut the frame, it would have to be something similar to an oxy/ace setup. I can't use a saw or cut off wheel, theres no room. Anyone have some tips, or should I just let him do all the work?
Reply:I would say you are going to spend more than 100 bucks to do the job if you don't have the tools already...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:All I needed to know! May be worth it regardless if theres a motor in it (didn't check to look!)
Reply:For the extra bean, let some one else bust there balls getting it off. I had a 65' F-100, as well as many 73'-79' Fords. Noses suck to get off in the bone yard.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:I work out of a salvage yard and occasionally his customers approach me about cutting parts off. I charge $80.00 an hour to do it with a 1 hour minimum mostly because I don't like doing it. I usually just tell them I am too busy on other stuff, and if they insist I usually make 'em squeal with the price. You can get a Harris cutting rig at Lowes for under $200.00, but you still have to have bottles for it to work. The Harris is a good torch ( I like mine better for O/A welding than my Victors, but the Victors better for cutting), and the regulators are great (I use mine on my truck because of their compact size). The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship.
