I picked this Lamborghini bumper cover up from a friend yesterday along with 4 of these 17" wheel off of an Impreza STi. The bumper will be a desk for his office, and I'm thinking I will use 2 wheels for a coffee table, then the other two for two end tables. Any ideas would be appreciated! I have a few in my head but I can't draw well enough to show you
Reply:Is the bumper cover going to be the front of the desk?
Reply:I think you got your work cut out for you.
Reply:Yes bumper cover will be the front of the desk, I have the inserts for it and I think I'll set up lights to go behind them and also use sheet metal underneath it with the logo cnc cut out
Reply:Thats one expensive desk. Can't wait to see what you come up with.on the coffee table, are you going to use a glass top with the wheels under it or , use the wheels vertically on the ends? There are no problems. Reply:Those wheels look nice, I wouldn't waste them on a coffee table.
Reply:yeah man, those wheels would be really cool on my sons impreza  if you're going to do what you're talking about then you could band saw off the whole rear of the barrel right behind the front lip, much less bulk and weight and wasted space, and the whole rear part of the wheel has no beauty or use here anyway... you could use a bicycle sprocket behind each with a bike chain so when you rotate one the other also rotates ... just the wheel faces will need less bearing strength too because they'll be much lighter than the whole rim/barrel assy, you could also angle them easily so they look good from the top as well as from the face...Last edited by turbocad6; 05-23-2013 at 06:23 PM.miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:the bumper is a tough one, going to be hard to not make it wind up just looking like a desk with a bumper hanging off of it or a bumper stand with a table surface tacked on  I think if I was going to use a bumper like this for a desk then I'd also want to recreate a least the leading edges of both the hood and the fenders and have it look a bit more like a front clip, THEN I could see it really looking like something custom, but just the bumper alone would be tough. Ideally you would have a donor hood and fenders too, and the lights... etc, even if you was only cutting the first 6-8 inches from the hood fenders, this would make all the difference in the world as far as end result Last edited by turbocad6; 05-23-2013 at 06:29 PM.miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:man the more I think about the wheel table the more I'm liking this idea, cut just the faces and you'd be able to fit all 4 and at staggered angles, and use poles with through bearings and link them all together under a hidden lower box with bike gears and chains, then whenever you spin one they all spin, could be 2 in one direction and 2 in the other... hell go all out and have a small turn table type setup so they all just constantly spin real slow... done right I could see this looking like a 5k coffee table with enough attention to detail... are you looking to build art or just some old parts stuck together?miller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....
Reply:I'm looking to build art, but since I'm just barely getting my feet wet on it I am trying to keep it relatively simple. As long as these go well, there will be plenty more to come after taking a look at this companies' parts room.As for cutting the barrel, I think instead I am going to completely enclose the sides of the table except the middle to hide them. The fella I'm building it for is a little skeptical so for this set at least I'd like to keep them useable in case he doesn't like it!All I've done so far is build the top and bottom of the frame. I need to add two crossmembers to each of them still. I left them big enough to where I can put the wheels in and take them out freely from the top. Material I'm using is cold rolled 2x1x16 ga tubing.

Reply:A little progress, all I have left to do for the coffee table is get the glass cut, add grommets to the top and bottom, and wrap it in 1/2" exp metal.
Reply:are the rim solid mounted or are they going to be powered to rotate? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:Kenny is the man!Got some 1/2" expanded bent up to fit inside the frame, thought it would look better with the tubing on the outside. I'm really impressed with myself for bending it up by hand and getting it right the first time!
