What procon pump are you all using? Would a 125gph be ok or is that too much flow?TA PAK 5XRTA 185Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Not sure about the model number, but the usual Procon pump is the style that is used on a carbonator pump (see Ebay) and is set to run at about 40-50 psi.  Usually the brass version (not the stainless because the brass is cheaper) and has a variable pressure adjustment.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:Look up the torch you plan on cooling on the manufacturers website.  At least for my CK230, it calls for 1 liter per minute coolant flow which is not hard to achieve.  My crappy municipality water is at around 25 psi and was enough to cool my 25' torch on its own.As said above, most Procon pumps have a pressure adjustment on them.  IIRC, it's under the acorn nut.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:There's a company on Ebay that will build you one to spec ( 50-60 psi) for a water cooler... I got mine from there for $60 I think..looks like new and works like it should...no problems....Just send them a message stating what you need and they will hook you up...you'll have to get a specific pump motor from somewhere like Grainger... Mine was about $100... The hardest part of building a cooler is the damn fittings... and they add up quick....Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
Reply:My electric motor on my water cooler started screwing up the other day, it was under a steel Bernard cover, so I removed the benard cover and discovered all I had was a procon pump and carbonator pump motor, basically a soda fountain machine. So I looked around online called some electric motor shops, and eventually I realized since all it was was for a soft drink machine I called a used restaurants equipment place and they had loads of electric motors with Procon pumps on then, I got me a mighty nice new motor for a whopping 25.00, I thought about buying a new more cleaning them to sell them
Reply:The problem with using a regular carbonator motor to replace the setup on your Bernard, is that the carbonator motor doesn't have the armature shaft sticking out of the end opposite the procon pump, where you mount the blower fan.  I have gotten around that in two different ways:  the first way was to cut the fan end of the armature off a dead motor and weld it on the stub of the new motor..... the second way was to put the new armature in a lathe and drill a hole in the end of the armature and insert a stainless post in the end, weld it, and thread the post to accept the nuts to clamp a smaller fan.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:One issue with the beverage pumps is that they don't have the inlet strainer.  The strainer keeps particles out of the pump and out of the TIG torch – particles that can clog up passages in your TIG torch that allow water to flow through.  And, if you purchase the Procon pumps for welding applications, they are usually preset at 60 PSI, the standard for MIG welding.  The recommended setting  for TIG welding is 50 PSI.-----------------------Carmen Electrodewww.CarmenElectrode.comand the boss blogs at  www.JoeWelder.comall powered by  www.Arc-Zone.com
