Hello. I just bought a grizzley vertical bandsaw for cutting various pieces that go into my suspension kits.  Most are mild steel pieces and have notches and other various angle cuts to them.  Saw should work great for that.  However the saw arrived and the blade that is on it sucks.  To boot the blade is 108 1/8" long and the only ones grizzley offers is 1" versions which I think will be too wide to allow for the cuts I want to make.  My questions are:1.  What is the best blade for me to use for cutting 3/16 & 1/4" thick mild steel.2.  Can I just buy a roll of this stuff and tig weld it and anneal with a torch?Any suggestions/ideas on how to get me using this new piece of equipment would be appreciated.  The saw has on it now a 1/2" wide blade, but I think its wood, naturally they do not know or tell you what it comes with.  Thanks for any help!Best Times with 434 Naturally Aspirated Vette60 - 1.261/8 -  6.37@ 107.25 MPH 1/4 - 10.08 & 134.9MPH1/4 - 9.60@144MPH
Reply:Hey ski,That's a pretty good saw from all the reviews I have seen. I know most of the import saws have crappy blades. I buy my bandsaw blade in bulk rolls of 250' both in CS & BiMetal with 14tpi & 18tpi and is really cost saving. They are 1/2" X .025.  Also, I bought a HF bandsaw blade welder that works superb and makes it so easy. I got mine a couple years ago for $109 and I just saw a flyer that had them at the same price. I got my blade stock from an E-Bay company, but he is no longer listed there.... glad I stocked up. The rolls were Aggressor CS and Capewell B/M from Greenfield Industrial in Evans, GA. and were $56/roll which is about 25c/ft. The blade welder is fast, does a great job, and only lacks a built-in grinder, so I made a small grinder unit to do just the blades. Attached is a photo. They are worth the investment if you want to maintain a cost effective solution to broken blades. And, in addition, many times you can re-weld a broken blade if the teeth are still in usable condition.....  Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:While in college we made our own blades and silver soldered them together. Once in awhile one would break. Solder it back together and go back to work. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:That's good to know, yorkiepap!  So you added the grinder to your welder?  I looked at that welder on the HF website and saw the bottom of the faceplate was blank.  Nice installation!America Needs AMERICA'S Oil!!!"Global warming is the greatest scam in history ...There is no run away climate change.
