Here is part of my root pass - not flat - good penetration on inside - 1/16 gap - running it about 85 amps - I think - using a 56 shorthood - any tips / comments ?? thanks! Dave[IMG][/IMG]
Reply:Uhh. Show us the back side. Looks good, but what really matters is whats on the inside.

Reply:3/32'' gap is better, amps ok, smooth bead profile will eliminate the excessive grinding you gonna have to do to eliminate wagon tracks!
Reply:I always preferred  a 3/32 gap and 3/32 land.  Somewhere around the 75-80 amp mark with a steady forward direction. Unless my keyhole got too big, then I would whip.  Show a PICT of he backside
Reply:Looks like the bead is too concave and not flat enough. Wet out on the sides looks marginal and appears to have lots of slag buried in there. That slag will fail you when it comes time to bend your coupons. The weld will open right up after bending.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
