White and Brown band Tungsten

Why is there two different colors for the same spec tungsten? EWZr-1...talk about confusing!

Reply:Take a look at this site...up at the top part of the page under the package of tungsten. It lists the colors to the type of tungsten and then it says White OR Brown...1% Zirconiated... I'm having troubles understanding why this would be done? It has caused alot of un-wanted BS trying to locate white band. I had the welding shop scratching there heads for two days...and myself.http://weldingdirect.com/turoelandpr.html

Reply:The new ThermalArc 186 specs the white band tungsten for AC welding. I had never heard of it before then, obviously after many calls visits I wasn't alone! The specs read the same for the both Brown or White. I will try and get a solid answer why they are making the same product with different color codes.
Reply:I read someplace that different colors for the same tungsten is the standard for the states and the standard for overseas are different. Not sure how true it is.
