Hello everyone I'm in the market to get a new Pipeliner helmet and I wanted to get a AD filter for it as well.  I was wondering what AD filter would you recommend?  I have very sensitive eyes and I remember in welding school they gave us this helmet:http://www.amazon.com/ArcOne-S240-10.../dp/B003WE9Y94It had a ARC-One single in it and I remember it made my eyes super tired at the end of the day.  I thought it was total trash.  I ended up melting through the filter doing 4G Inner sheild and I had to toss it.Are there any better AD filters that you guys would recommend?  I plan on joining the pipe fitters union so that's the kind of work It will be used for.  Thanks so much fellas, any input is appreciated.
Reply:Lots of threads on this but look up the ArcOne SS240. I don't have one but lots of guys like them and I will have one soon.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:I just received an Arc1 SS240 and put it into my leather monkey mask.Things I like:- Very clear in the off state- Has a grind modeThings I do not like:- 10.5 shade is too light for my taste- Non replaceable battery, ADFs with solar cells and non replaceable battery are disposable items.- Orange-ish colour ( I prefer a green/blue shade)I have only welded 2-3 hours with it so far so cannot comment on eye fatigue.
Reply:I'm currently using an Optrel b020 ad insert in my fibremetal tiger hood at work. I like it. It works very well, even in the cold weather. If you buy a brand name lens, not one of the made in China no name $30 lenses on eBay, the unit will last. I have found most of the ad insert lenses to be one shade lighter then a standard non ad lens. I weld structural for a living and I wouldn't show up on the job site without my ad insert. It makes for less clean up and comes in real handy in very tight work areas. You have to keep the sensors clean in them. My tiger hood has a flip front so I use a clear lens on the back side of my ad lens so I can safely grind when the flip front is up.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:I tried a cheapo Chinese adf 2x4 insert before I ordered the arcone. The view was like looking through a really fogged up glass and if you tried to use it under fluorescent lights it just went dark.
Reply:I've been using an ArcOne auto lens for a few years now. It's real clear to me. I use a #10 in the shop, but for outside I use a #11. With having sensitive eyes you'll want a #11 at least.
