flux core and penetration

I was just watching a video on welding tips and tricks.com and jody said that flux core will actually give you better penetration than solid core. It seems backwards from what I would think because of the polarity.Anyone know why it has better penetration?
Reply:My understanding is that because of the protective atmosphere created by the flux, the arc is able to burn hotter. It's basically like SMAW with a smaller diameter electrode.What I don't understand is why I see very little difference in arc and penetration when I raise the voltage but keep WFS and Inductance at the same settings when using flux core. Does anyone know if the inductance should be high or low when using flux core?
Reply:Voltage controls the bead profile,wire speed controls amperage.
Reply:I tell ya what, I love the way lincoln 030 and hobart flux core run on my little machine! There wasn't much spatter at all and it pretty much welded like a 7018 with a short arc length. Very nice!Does anyone know if there is a difference in ductility or tensile strength between flux core and solid core?
