I picked up a Brainbridge Model 712 7"X12", horizontal and vertical metal cutting band saw.My question is whats the proper width of the blade? a 1/2" or 5/8". It look to me that a 3/4" blade it to wide for the drive wheels.5/8 is not very common size and 1/2 looks on the small size. The length measures 93 1/2 or 94" and have found some places to get them made. Its been my experience that wider the blade the better for straight cuts and a 14 TPI waive cut seems to work best. Any other input would be greatly appreciated.
Reply:Ok here a more general question. Is this saw a 1/2, 5/8 or 3/4 blade width? Plus there is no rubber on the 12" wheels that turn the blade. Are the rubber just missing or is it possible not need.?
Reply:I have only seen one Bainbridge saw, and it was broken and the guy was unable to find repair parts for it. I know they have not been made in quite awhile. I don't know about your particular saw, but not all wheels on saws will have rubber on them. Measure the height of the drive wheels and the guides, and you should be able to tell what size blade it takes.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:thanks Hammack:The guy i got this saw from tried to tell me it took a 3/4 blade and I'm quite sure he was mistaken. The drive wheels measure 5/8 wide . It has not rubber on any wheels and I have found new rubber for about $24 each, I have so little invested in this saw, but I am hoping to bring it back to a workable saw soon. I have a chop saw now and tired of its mess.
