I may be interested in securing a quality though small size plasma cutter.  I am interested in slicing and dicing up to 1/4" plate.I would  be interested in entertaining any comments from the experienced on Miller vs Lincoln, vs. HF, or anything.  Feature for value... etc.  I have not established a budget, but that does not mean the moon is my ceiling  This should be a high quality but small machine to compliment my Lincoln MIG 140.Member, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:Hypertherm and Thermodynamics are the best in the field and long term quality machines. The TD cutmaster 38 or Hypo 380 are what you are looking for. I think their are newer models out there now which I have heard are even better. As to the off shore stuff, I have never tired one but since Giantguy has posted here I thought I better say that if I was going to try one it would be from him. I believe you would have good service and support.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:Dover, NH.  There is a Dover in delaware too?GiantTechGuy lives in an area where I know people, and I can drive to his door in about two hours.  If I had any problems I am sure he would take care of the matter in good order.  If he didn't.....  well, lets not go there.  Member, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:I purchased a Hypotherm 30 recently for a job I was doing, and to say it is a GREAT little Plasma is an understatement!  It's very compact, and cuts 3/8" steel like a charm.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I saw a Hypertherm 30 yesterday at my local welding supply shop, i was very surprised it could cut 3/8 considering it wasn't much bigger than a toaster! cool little machine.
Reply:I have the Hypertherm 380, which cuts to the same specs as the new 30, except mine weighs about 60 lbs and is about twice the size.   Still, it is considered a relatively small machine for its' capabilities and it's dual-voltage too, as is the new 30.   I want to get a 30 to keep on the truck and leave the 380 in the shop, whenever I have an extra G to spend on new toys.   I have been seeing the 30 online now for in the high 9's, which down alot from what it sold for a year ago.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Mondo,You are welcome to come to the Hypertherm factory in Hanover NH.....an hour and 20 minutes north. All hypertherm product is designed and manufactured here. We love to give plant tours through our state of the art facility....especially through the research and development areas and through our reliability labs. You can see how the latest technology is developed....then how it is built and tested. You pay more up front for a Hypertherm system as compared to many others....but the savings come over time in terms of operating cost (by far the longest consumable life), cut quality and reliability.I am a NH native.....grew up in West Lebanon and now live in Enfield. Let me know if you want a plant tour...I will personally show you around!Best regards, Jim Colt

Reply:GiantTechGuy:I've been reading the specs on the Cut40A but the input power spec doesn't give the amperage.  What's the input demand at 120V ?  Will this run off a 15A receptical (NEMA 5-15R  - two verticle straight slots and a ground at the bottom) or do I need a 20A recepticle (NEMA 5-20R  - left is horizontal, right is verticle, ground at the bottom) ?Member, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:Does this auto-detect the input voltage and have a single plug that can be plugged into either 120-V or 220V?What is the configuration of the plug on the end of the cord?Member, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:Just one more plug for the Hyper 30... Sweet lil machine that really shows I can't cut straight. The new ones come with the adapt a plug deal to plug into 120 or 220. Just make sure you have good clean dry air ( just like the rest ).

Reply:Thanks for the response, Larry..and thanks for coming to Hypertherm! We (owner/employees) are pretty proud of our facility.....we don't have the least expensive plasma cutting products, but we produce very nice industrial level plasma cutting equipment. We actually export more than half of our production....and China is one of our largest markets. Imagine that...selling USA made product in China! The invitation is open ...if you are visiting New Hampshire (we still have a couple feet of snow on the ground)...contact me and I'll show you around the factory!Bet regards, Jim Colt
