Did a quick search and did not see my answer. I got a Jackson WH40 on an Amazon deal of $105 shipped. Anyone who has one of these please tell me the best way to put a cheater lens inside where the inside protector lens is. Looks like something needs to be modified. The help number in the instructions goes to Slovenija.Seriously. I don't speak no Slavic.__________________

Reply:Please define "cheater lens".If you mean a magnifying lens that those of us that need reading glasses, then put on your glasses and adjust the helmet's hinge all the way forward, so it sits lower and you are looking down (rather than straight ahead) through the helmet's lens.I need astigmatizm correction as well as nearsightedness and 52-year-old eyes. I bought some really nice heavy-duty glasses with side shields that I wear all around the shop. And under my $75 off-brand welding helmet after I found out about adjusting the hinges.EnjoY!Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:I wear glasses as it is for close up work. My eye glasses take care of the unequal correction. I don't use glasses for distant vision. I'm farsighted only by reason of age. So, my reading glasses are set up for 18". Even if the puddle is clear enough to me at 18", it isn't big enough to watch the toes and all else that is going on. I need the magnification. Currently, I use +150 cheaters. I have some +200 if I really want to bury my head into a small TIG weld.I have cheaters in my static helmet and my Speedglass, but the cheapo that I have that just died wouldn't take them. It was a HF unit that I used for overhead. This Jackson seem like a pretty good unit, but if I can't use lenses, I'm sending it back.__________________
Reply:I think I'd call the company and ask.The helmets I have, I just lift the wire that holds the lens in place, slip in the magnifier, snap it closed.Yours should be simple too.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Bring back an old thread, I did buy that kit. It does the job but it's set up for the bigger lens. Most magnifiers are the smaller lens. It works but now and then the cheater slips down a bit. At least I can adjust the line of sight, lol.__________________
Reply:Got this setup for a Jackson hood at my LWS some time back:A clear plastic lens cut out to hold the magnifier in place...all held in with metal clip that holds the filter in.You could probably use some thin acrylic to make your own. On my Miller AD hood the magnifier is the same size as filter so clips right in.DB
Reply:I could never get cheaters to work right had my eye doctor make special safety glasses only for close work. |
