Hi All! I'm new to the forum so I hope you will forgive any mistakes I may make.  I have been asked to make some steel window frames, its a job I have no experience at. I can weld no problem, is there particular alloys or material guidelines that must be followed for structural integrity?  All help MOST welcome!  Thanks!
Reply:What size do these have to be? Thickness of the wall they are going into? Is the rest of the building steel as well? If not, how are these going to be held in place in the building?Structural steel is almost always A36 low carbon mild steel. It's always welded with a low hydrogen welding procedure. You need more info and specs before doing is job.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Normally windows are nothing to do with Structural as all they support is the glass contained within them, The only thing structural which takes the stresses of the weight of the building would be the lintels above the window.Theres a company in the UK that have been making metal windows for over 100 years, take a look at their brochure for ideas http://www.crittall-windows.co.uk/download/121/
