Hello,I'm getting started shopping.....I have no experience with PC's, other than reading here.I do know that when cutting it would be almost never that I cut anything over 1/2" thick. Most times the thickest will be 3/8".I know the 52 says it's rated 1/2" as the "recommended" cut.In the real world will the 52 do everything I need? Or should I go to an 82?Thanks, BTI
Reply:just getting started shopping myself and as i understand it Thermal Dynamics is no longer over rating there machines . a half inch rated machine is a half inch machine. seems the ones that used to " sever " 1-1/8" were rated at 3/4 or 7/8 ( my esab was )the 52 is rated at 1/2 inch with a sever of 1-1/8http://www.thermadyne.com/thermaldyn...t/view/75/239/insert thoughtful quote from someone else2000 Thermal Arc 300GTSW 3.5 hours1946 Monarch 20 x 54 Lathe1998 Supermax 10x54 Mill2004 Haco Atlantic 1/2" Capacity Lasernot mine but i get to play with it

Reply:Their rating is for a thickness that the machine can cut well all day long from what I gather. The 52 should be more than adequate. The 38 would probably even be OK. More is better for plasma cutters though.Rene
