Hello all,I have a weldanpower 225 DC:210.  It runs and welds fine as a stick welder and with a high frequency box for aluminum welding too.  I hooked a hobart wire feeder off of it and tried running some .035 wire and it barely had enough amperage to run a cold bead.  The machine has a CV setting and the power is controlled by another knob labelled "output control" which I set at 10 on a range of 1 to 10.  Should this welder be able to run .035?  The manual says the range is .023 to .035.  I feel that the machine can only handle .023.  could the power be under the norm for some reason and I need to trouble shoot the welder or is this normal for this machine,  Anyone used a wire feeder with it?  The feeder works flawlessly, its just that the amperage is too low.Its late here so I cannot run some more tests tonight without pissing off my neighbors but notice in the manual it says to run it in high idle.  I had it in automatic idle.  However when I strike the arc, it goes to high idle anyway.  Could this be the reason for low power? I'll test it again in the morning in high idle. Thanks for any opinions.
Reply:Your output selector needs to be on the yellow cv mark bottom left and your fine current has to be above 5 if I remember right and your wire speed needs to be turned down to 5 to start with
Reply:Thanks.  I followed the instructions in the manual for CV welding.  However the output is low on amperage and it seems it could only run an .024 wire effectively.  However if I put it in CC mode and select an amperage range it burns the wire and lays down metal real well.  However it does not have the same control as a regular mig welder.  Also I can't go downhill or overhead with it as the puddle is too big.  The wire feeder I a using is not voltage sensing so I think that may be where the problem is when in CC mode as the wire speed is constant.could there be something wrong in the CV circuity of the welder?  I have a chance to get a newer Hobart handler wire feeder.  It is a newer version of what I have now but I don't think that is the problem and am worried that if I invest in a different one I may run into the same problem. Is it possible that this welder is only able to run smaller wire effectively?
Reply:Therrera,Are you ready to start throwing money at it?. Sounds like you need a new gun. Until you try it, you will not know.
Reply:I burn .068 inner shield in mine so I am guessing bad connection somewhere ?
Reply:Your fine current adjusts your heat and wire speed adjusts amperage
Reply:I see a dial that says weld level on feeder I am guessing you need to adjust that too
Reply:I will also say that the shorter the leads the better it will work that is my experience anyway don’t know about others on here. I also found that a very good ground clamp is essential
