Bought this old Carolina band saw for $200.00 from CL. Did a complete restoration on it. Painted it all (except the motor)with jingle can hammered grey---gave it a nice metal finish. Ended up selling it for $500.00. The saw cut thin pipe ok, but cutting solid metal was difficult. The blade kept  falling off the wheels and took forever to cut. Read a few reviews on this saw, some good some bad. The restore took around 3 weeks and was not worth the $300.00 profit. It came with wheels but I tig welded up a better frame for the wheels. Enjoy the pics....ZZ.... Attached Images

Reply:WOW!  Looks beautiful!  Great job on the resto ... but I don't see any "profit" in it ... how many hours?   Sorry to hear about the crappy cutting - I had one on loan for a year back about '88 and it was crappy oem carolina green, but it could hack thru a stack of 2x2x1/4 angles in a reasonable hurry - and straight!  Must be the "luck of the draw" ... someone, somewhere, gets a good one.
Reply:I appreciate the effort you put into that machine.  Too bad it couldn't get tweaked, and serve you for years to come.  Looks great!  Very nice job with a rattle can.-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup

Reply:damn! You don't play around, do you?
Reply:Looks like it just came out from the show room. It turned out very well. It's maybe a  drive wheel/ drive shaft bearing issue or just poor alignment.PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClamps
Reply:Thanks for the compliments on the bands saw restoration. I had planned on keeping it but I read a few negative threads about the saw and decided to sell it after all. I had to weld a new idler arm axle, the old one was bent really bad(not sure how that happened). Plus someone installed a home made plastic bushing on the old tore up, gouged out axle. The new axle worked fine with a little tweeking. I spoke with the guy from Carolina Saws, he told me that he was probably the guy who welded that saw together back in the1980's. They sell rebuild kits for the drive and idler wheels complete with ball bearings and the works. Kind of expensive rebuild kit. I just had a buddy machine a shaft to fit the idler wheel and that was that. Sold it, and moved on to next project. Looking to buy a new horizontal band saw soon. Reply:Saw looks nice, good call getting rid of it. I went through the same process on a Ramco saw, it's the same POS originally sold by the same outfit you have there. As soon as I find a decent replacement, it's got to go. The main beam of the saw flexes while it's cutting and makes getting a straight cut in anything over 2" stock almost impossible.
Reply:I picked up the exact same saw about 2 months ago for $50... I have been meaning to strip it down and paint it dark machine grey... But ain't nobody got time for that lately. Mine cuts great.Miller Dynasty 300 DXMiller CST280Miller Maxstar 150 STH
