Hey folks whats shakin?got a couple new pics of the latest, built a custom trailer hitch for a 73 Ford Gran Torino. got a winch built into it and the whole thing is completely removable. there are brackets that slot into pockets i put on the frame, and the whole hitch slides in and locks with a couple pins.  made to pull his jetski and lower it down the ramp with the winch so he doesn't have to get the car wet! Reply:Nice work, where's about? Was born an raised in Ontario. A shame such a nice car has to tow Bruce
Reply:ottawa area,  yeah its not for regular towing duty! its for the jetski only for maybe 3-4 weekends a summer thats why its completely removable!
Reply:I keep coming back to this thread... and It's not because of the build that I'm irritated  by it. It's because of the tool who's so full of himself that he's got to F up a perfectly good muscle car just to tow around his often times just as duechey jetski. Get the right vehicle for the job, stop f-ing up a classic.carry on. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:why mess up the lines of a perfectly good looking car? (EDIT) I understand now from your last post.anyway, I don't care for the hitch.  Just a personal thing and this has nothing to do with the car.  one the hitch is cantilevered out so the welds carry the full stress.  this is never a good thing on a "custom" life endangering implement that doesn't carry a PE stamp and a certified welder.  You may be a certified welder, I don't know, and you may be a PE, I don't know.  What is the winch for?  it looks silly hanging off the bottom of the hitch.  I don't mean to come off ugly.  I just don't get it.Last edited by Scott Young; 07-16-2013 at 04:28 PM.

His grandmother bought it new off the lot.  This install was not done on a whim and is something he has considered for a long time before having it built. He wanted to find the right guy to build it and I am happy it turned out to be me.  The whole thing is designed to be GONE when not in use..no evidence of it except for a couple small brackets on the frame nestled in between the gas tank and mufflers. He has another car (4 door family sedan...ewwww) for regular towing but he wanted to occasionally bring his baby (Torino) and baby (GF)  and his other baby (jet-ski) to the cottage at the same time...the cottage is 3 hours from home. whats the point of working hard to have nice things if you can't enjoy them or show them off once in a while? He hasn't ruined a classic, he made it more useful.  His goal is not to get rich off of it by selling it to some hot rod purist at a Barret-Jackson auction...this car gets serious miles put on it,  It gets driven.  He'll probably be buried in this car.Isn't one of the joys of ownership that you can do what you please with things?I'm going outside to cut something I own apart and use it for a purpose it wasn't meant for.peace out
Reply:I've seen Jet Skis towed with Honda Civics. I doubt it will put much stress on a full-frame V8 powered American car. As for what the man does with his car, he can set it on fire in his front yard if he wants to. Reply:if it means anything i think you did a great job on the hitch... then i read all the posts and some of the people on this sight truly drive me nuts. some of you guys just complain about anything. this man is towing a jet ski, ive towed my jet ski as a kid with a god damn golf cart, i highly doubt your cantilevered hitch is gonna break nor is the jet ski going to stress out this full framed v-8 car. i often come to this sight to check out what other welders and fabricators like myself have going on and so often i am reminded why i never post here. good job on getting the jet ski in the water without the car getting wet!
Reply:Originally Posted by Scott YoungA simple hitch extension would work as well and most trailers I have seen have winch on them that could do the same.  I understand some trailers don't but mounting the winch to the trailer would be better, and it would be more aesthetic.  again, just my opinion.

Reply:I seem to remember a lot of cars in the 70's having hitches only they were usually flat strap bolted right to the bumper. Whats worse a hitch on a classic or a 4x4 riding on 2" of ground clearance  that never sees dirt. My guess is it had at least a 383 under the hood and the rear was probably stouter than most typical 1/2 ton trucks today..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
