hijust wondering if anyone might know a solution to this problem...I've got an sa200 short hood that's been sitting in storage for a year and a half I guess and I tried to start it up the other day but no gono battery, so I used jumper cables to truck.. you could hear the starter spinning over but it wouldn't get anything else.. generator barrel wouldn't spin as usualanyone ever had this problem before? thanks in advance for reading
Reply:Based on your description I'd say the starter drive (bendix) isn't engaging.Could be due to corrosion or dried grease but I'm inclined to think the starter is not spinning up fast enough due to low voltage as a result of no battery.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I'll try a fresh battery. . i hooked up the same jumper cables to my other machine that I know works and the generator barrel barely spun, not even a full spinis cleaning the starter of grease or pulling it out to check for corrosion a tricky/risky job to do?thanks for your reply
Reply:Pulling the starter is just removing two bolts, the battery cable and solenoid engagement wire.  Once off, you can check to see if the drive moves freely on the armature shaft.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:if a freshly charged battery don't do the job, I'll have to pull the starter off and have a look.. right now I've got six sa200's that don't want to run .. I tried all with jumper cables but didn't seem like there was enough juice to spin them over.. maybe my jumper cables were weakthanks for your reply.. I want to learn these machines to be able to repair myself
Reply:The latest SA-200 I put together I had starting problems. Turns out the starter wasn't getting a good ground on the backing plate. I ran a ground wire from the – post on the battery to one of the bolts on the starter. No more problems.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Jumper cables typically can't carry sufficient current to crank an engine if there's no battery in the picture.  Especially the inexpensive light gauge type with light duty clamps.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:CEP now that you mention it I believe my SA200 had the battery grounded to a starter bolt

Reply:I took the sides and top off of one machine to try to get it working and learn about these machines.. I noticed the fuel bowl is black, not clearish like it should bewas curious how I'd go about cleaning the fuel from the lines to try and clean the fuel lines upthank you in advance for any information
Reply:When I started up my SA200 after setting a few years. The tank had a thick varnish in it I put my hand in and broke it up was like jello. I put a quart of 98 proof rubbing alcohol in and let it set 2 days drained it and wiped it dry with rags but hard on your hands. Cleaned it up like new. Scrapped the bowel with my knife. Put a put some gas in with seafome it did start but had it have the carburetor and mag rebuilt but the best money I haver ever spent. Good luck.
Reply:For the fuel bowl just go to Tractor Supply and buy a whole new assembly for $25. The shutoff valve on the old one probably leaks and the bowl gasket will be junk. CEP on here has the cats meow setup he got from Ecklers Chevy parts place.
Reply:This is CEP's. I'm going to give it a try next time. http://www.ecklerstrucks.com/chevy-a...1947-1962.html
