What's your suggestion for a cheap, horizontal bandsaw?
Reply:I got the harbor freight bandsaw when it was on sale for 149 a few months ago and have been very happy with it. For the price it can't be beat.
Reply:If you have an Agri-supply near you then I would say take a look at their little 4x6 saw. It is one of the only small "cheap" swivel head saws I have seen. I bought one awhile back and it has worked everyday very well. It even cut straight right out of the box with no adjustments. For $229 I am seriously considering buying another one just to have for when I need to be running two saws.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:I will take a couple pics of it tomorrow and post them for you. Their website is www.agrisupply.com The last time I was on the site I did not see the saw, but I will get the item number tomorrow and see if you might could order it. In case someone is interested. I don't saw alot of steel. Mostly just shafts for lathe work. I have a 4x6 Sears saw that is probably 30 years old and has worked well, but the little agrisupply saw is really nice considering the swivel head.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:OK, Here are a few pics of the saw I bought. I'll have to look for the model number in the morning as I was in a hurry this afternoon to get to a job. I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I`m also looking for a small band saw. How well do these work for 304 stanless tubing (with bimetal blade of course)? Also, is it necessary to be spary cooling while cutting stainless tubing? This is the model im currently looking at its 1/3 hp: http://busybeetools.ca/cgi-bin/pictu...7&NTITEM=B1929 What do you guys think? or might i be better off just buying a chop-saw.
Reply:I have a harbor freight bandsaw, IMO it's all in the blade. I've been going through blades like no tomorrow and keep telling myself to get a lenox or try out home depots blades but harbor freight is oh so close...Miller Syncrowave 180SDMillermatic 175

Reply:I also got one from harbor freight for $149 if you run one the slow speed and keep blade lubed it does a wonderful job for the money.paul
Reply:1320TSI, that appears to be basically the same saw that mine is except I paid $220 less for it. Overall I have been very pleased with this little saw.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:If you feel it's worth the money, look at the next larger capacity saw witth a buiIt in coolant system. I do some milling, and run annular cutters in my drill press very often. I swear by coolant. It saves a lot of money on having to buy new tooling constantly.Coolant allows you to run faster. You can double your SFPM just by using coolant.I LOVE COOLANT !!
Reply:I have the red HF model. Bought it for $149. Used the original blade till it died (which didn't take long), and then swapped it for an Enco bimetal blade. Like many HF tools, it's not perfect. But with a little bit of tuning and that new blade, it is one of the few HF tools that's worth the money.I wouldn't want to rely on this if it were for my income, but home/hobby use - it's awesome.$149 is the sale price. It comes around to that price point every couple of months.
Reply:Hi, first post in a long time. I just bought the Jet 5"x6" saw. Bought it from a local dealer for $290. Highly recomended. Toasted the first blade, put Lennox bi-metal 18TPI on it, love it. Just IMO, in case anyones still interested.
Reply:Was the new blade coarser, or finer, than the one that came with the saw??Sometimes reducing the cut, or I guess the chip load, can make a dog of a machine into something you can work with. I think it's a matter of hp. and ridgity of the machine. I might be wrong. And, yes I'm interested, and I suppose some other folks are too."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:To answer your first question, they were both 18 TPI blades. The new ones are Lennox Diemaster, were about $9.50 ea. for 64.5"x 1/2"x.025" blades. I also purchased a 14 TPI but have yet to try it. Something I read somewhere, said that a rule of thumb is have at least 2.5 teeth in contact with the material at all times, mostly to avoid breaking teeth. I could see how rigidity would have alot to do with the performance. The Jet frame is cast iron, so its as heavy as it looks. Model no. HVBS-56M
Reply:Another vote for the HF cheapy here. With a new stand to raise it up a bit, and a real blade, it is a perfect hobbyist machine.Don't discount the importance of the blade - I had a *hell* of a time with the blade coming off, then I bought a decent blade and it was like a different saw. No issues at all.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...hlight=bandsaw- John
Reply:harbor fright has the similar saw now for $260 and $12 freight. Found the saw on MSCdirect for $220 and over $100 freight.
Reply:tooldiscounter.com has a clarke bt10151 for $183, free shipping.
Reply:Clarke's little 4.5" Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw is a nice little saw.. I have sold about 60 of them, and had no warranty claims at all. It is suprisingly heavy for the size! The whole upper is Cast, The legs are a little chincy, but they seem to hold up fine. I sell them in my store for $225 assmebled. They use a 64 1/2 x 1/2 x .35-.45 Blades.. Most of the small "chinese" Saws are about the same.. The reason I chose to sell the Clarke line is that they set me up as a warranty repair center, and parts are only a few days out if you have a claim..
Reply:gotan emailfromtooldiscounter saying ups could not handle the little Clark saw and truck freight was $80. cancelled order. |
