Reply:Yep, you need to teach that youngster how to make pretty welds.StickMan, I browsed this site some years ago looking for a machinist project. Forget wich one tho. Then, a couple years later,  I stumbled here again using a search engine to find an A/O cart. Yours came up (I beam) but my choice was the old boy from TExas style (big wheels). Reply:Ok ok ok, yes, this was just a joke! Well, sort of........ You see, I know the guy that owns the company. I have tried to offer my services many times. He is very proud and happy to have a guy, with a european accent, do all of his welding for $10.00/hr. I will not compete with that. His welder broke, and when the front of the hook box broke off while it was being dropped, he called and asked if I could do his welding. I thought about it, and decided not to. Because, he is the type that would want it done very fast, because of my rate, and use scrap. I just told him I was too busy with my regular job. So he bought my big old Hobart I had, from my buddy I sold it to, right after I got my Commander. These welds were made using 1/8" 7014, to which the weldor said, "eets gude erod, yes". I suggested next time he buys 3/32" because the steel he is welding to is much less than 1/8"."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I think the key is to be able to weld over the rust and paint, literally over. If you weld through the rust and paint the sides fall off and leave the weld standing up their by itself.  Somebody needs to write a Uniform Code for Dumpster Repair book. 1) Cost is not an issue,,,,,,, because we ain't gonna pay nuthin. 2) No repair will take more than 20 minutes.3) Grinders and/or wire wheels are forbidden on the job site.4)5)6) "The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:I would suggest wire welding it, and use a wire that matches the chemistry of the parent material.
