Well my job got involved in some sort of summer program helping some youths from vocational schools. And we got sent 15yr old Manny, who quickly became my best friend. He was with me for the last six weeks and that young sucker is smart as a whip, learned all the moves and was my right hand man and actually made me happy to go to work for a change due to his enthusiasm. My main goal was to keep him out of harms way with this trade, but he didn't sweat one scrape or burn or getting flashed from the other welders. Well, this kid is so wholesome right now at his age, and wanted to make something for his mom before he left. Tomorrow is his last day with me for i'm leaving to go out of town for a few days. The idea of the project was his idea and I told him we don't do junk yard work around here, at least not with me and I embellished on it a little bit. Soooo I let him butcher up all the pieces, just so in theory he did do everything and then I put the finishing touch on everthing else. Nothing crazy but just something to make his mom happy and show he learned something the last bunch of weeks. We actually pulled this off in a couple lunch hrs, and after the hot oil treatment I brought it home to clear the crap out of it. Honestly i'm gonna miss the kid, gonna be like getting rid of a puppy! Attached ImagesI hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:It is a great feeling to make a difference in the life of a kid. The rewards are unparalleled. Here's to you! GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:Cool ! That's awesome MIKE, the young ones today only want to play games, push buttons, or move a mouse. I'm sure you made a real impact on him. It's unfortunate that he may have seen that '' KEYSTONE LIGHT ''. Poor kid. I though your local guy lost his license ? Guess he found it .

Reply:great to see Mike, have to wrangle in these kids that actually arent afraid to get dirty, unfortunately there far and few between these days. Maybe the kid would be interested in coming to help out during the summers or somthing? i know we had one eager kid doing his work experience from the local welding high school progarm here at the station, he would skip his classes at school just to come work with us.
Reply:Aw, and here we thought mike was some BA welder. but in reality he's a big teddybear. Kudos Mike. I can assure you, you've had more of an impact on that young man's life in those short 6 weeks than you could even imagine. There are no problems. There are only solutions.
