I am 17 and I weld maybe once a week with a Miller Thunderbolt, an AC welder. I am good at flat so I have started learning vertical up and horizontal. Could anyone give me some tips on what I should do better and some techniques. This weld is vertical up with a 7018AC, I was weaving back and fourth. Its the furthest to the left.
Reply:Sorry the very bottom, they are vertical welds.
Reply:Picture is a bit blurry and hard to see with all the contrast. Beads look cold to me.Knowing what all the settings are, rod size and type, amps used, material thickness, position welded and so on lets us give you better feed back, as does clear picts. Anything up to that point is just guessing..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:The picture is turned sideways for some reason? I used a 1/8 7018 at around 125 amps maybe a little less. I was welding on a 1/4" coupon doing vertical up.

Reply:Rod size for material thickness seams about right. Amps may be a bit low. Rods tend to run a bit higher on AC than they do on DC regularly. 125 amps would be about right for DC +, but you may need to be up higher to get the toes to wet in right on AC. A clearer picture with out so much contrast, would help me see the toes better and give you more info..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks a lot everyone! I'll try turning down the amps, and I'll take another picture.
