I've recently bought four pair of tillman gloves, 1424XL work gloves and 20L tig gloves. With very little use, the seem treading let go, every pair. I remember Tillman use to last more than a few days. What happened?, their pricing certainly has not diminished, I paid 7 to 9 dollars each. Does anyone know of a higher quality glove, or at least a better price.Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180
Reply:Blue Beast are as good as the last 1080 tilmans I bought.  They (tilman)are sorry, real poor grain as if it was overstretched before it was sewn together.  Inside padding is deteriorating.  The blue beast have less insulation but aren't bad for gritty and grimey work.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:I'm not a tilman fan!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't like there products, and I didn't like there service.. In my store I stock Weldas, and Steiner. Both of these are good quality gloves at fair pricing.. PM me if you want I will cut you a deal on a pair and ship them to you. ... Weldas makes some tough gloves.. I sell tons of the COMFOFLEX 2000 Below is a link..http://weldas.com/index.php?page=list&id=72Carl
Reply:I forgot to add there about $10, I have a midgrade from them that is about 8.. Its basically the same glove, it just doesn't have as much insulation.. Carl
Reply:i wear the tillman 764m for work gloves, i am a sprinkler fitter/welder and get very good service out of them. i wear them until i wear a hole in one of the fingers, most of the time thats about two to three weeks. is there something compatable to that model that is better, i would try it.G3miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.
Reply:i burn up so many lefts that I use what ever the place across the street has that feels good and cost about 8 bucks. They know me there. I splurged this morning and bought a $15 dollar pair to see how long they last.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:I usually use the mig gloves instead of the tig gloves. The tig gloves are too thin for welding aluminum; the heat just pours through the thin leather too fast. The mig gloves last a LOT longer, and I feel they are better built. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:I know nothing about TIG (and a lot of other things), but I finally broke down and bought some gloves for using flux core wire.  Got tired of having to put out little fires on the back of those cheap cotton/leather palm gloves I usually use.I don't remember who makes 'em, but they have a picture of a horse on the glove.  Been pretty good gloves."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Tillman TIG gloves are the best. Standard of the industry.Pigskin with kevlar thread. I have bought hundred of pairs of the gloves over a 20 year period. They have saved my hands many times. 6 hours a day TIG welding for 11 years on just one job.But watch out because a sharp piece of sheet metal will cut right thru any pair of gloves.BTW gloves should fit a little loose so if they get too hot you can shake them off quick.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 11-04-2008 at 01:40 AM.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:I've been using Tillman gloves for years, and recently have been trying their Onyx line. The Tig gloves are Kidskin, the Mig gloves are Pigskin, and the stick gloves are Elk. So far, I'm pretty impressed with their quality. They are REAL comfortable!BretRanger 250 * Invertec V205-T * Invertec V275-S * Precision Tig 225 * Power Mig 300 w/ Python Push/Pull Pro-Cut 25 Plasma * Millermatic 150 * Hobart Handler 175 * Bernard 3060 Tig Cooler Everlast LG-80E Plasma Cutter * Henrob 2000
Reply:I have several pairs of the Elkhide gloves lined with Nomex on the back of the hand.  They are my favorite gloves, but much too expensive for work to provide.
Reply:Tillman makes all sorts of gloves.  Some 'better' or more suited for certain uses than others.  I don't know the 1424 or 20 products specifically, but if you didn't 'abuse' the gloves and they fell apart that fast I'd take them back and get them replaced/exchanged.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:The 1424 is a "driving glove".  I don't think it has the kevlar stitching like their welding gloves, and the 1424 is cowhide.  The goatskin is much more abrasion resistant, and being thinner, gives you more dexterity. The 20 doesn't appear to be a glove.  Their TIG gloves are 24, 25, and 30.I've got a bunch of the 24c TIG gloves, and get them for just under $10 (they're almost $25 at my LWS).  They leave me with almost the dexterity of a latex glove (I can put my hand in my pocket and sort through change to get the correct coin, with them on) and take me a while to eat through the fingers.  The brown cuff is a bit weak though, and I've ripped a few, pulling the gloves on (I like them to fit snugly, even if a loose fit is safer).  I think the Onyx 44 may have a better cuff (need to try those out), but for TIG I like a white glove, because I don't want something that hides dirt. The 850n stick gloves are extremely comfortable.  The elk hide is so soft that I can still feel what I'm holding, but easily thick enough to block out the heat from stick.  My only problem with them, is that the wife stole my last pair to use in the fireplace, and they're a bit pricy.  The "n" model has nomex on the back, instead of foam, and holds up better, for just a few cents more.
Reply:When you are running 250-300 amps of AC on aluminum, TIG gloves are useless for TIG welding. I am back to regular old welding gloves for 7 bucks a pair.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I really like the elkskin Tillman 850 series.  They're very similar to the onyx stick gloves.  I bought a pair of "toolhandz" ( I think they're revco) to TIG with, and they fell apart in the first 3 hours or so.  Since I was out of town, I had to go to Wal-Mart and got a pair of regular old stanley work gloves, and they worked out just fine for me.  They'd be similar to the Tillman 1414 drivers gloves... I try those out eventually.Just like anything else, Tillman has bottom of the barrel products as well as high quality products.  You get what you pay for IMO.
