I'm building steel cargo racks for a guy who hates his plastic oem junk and will need to make some tacks with the mounting tabs bolted to the frame. Will I need to disconnect the battery or other electrical components to avoid damage to the electrical system ? It does have an EFI setup and I'd hate to have to replace it. Thanks for any advice you can offer.Miller 211Miller T-bolt ac/dcVictor o/aMilwaukee ChopsawDewalt, Milwaukee minigrinderDelta drill pressDelta bench grinderair grinder, die grinderHF pipe benderHF horizontal bandsaw
Reply:It won't hurt to disconnect it and keep the work ground close to where you're welding. Better safe than sorry. MikeOl' Stonebreaker "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:The sensitive bits are the electronic boxes, the most expensive one will most likely be the EFI brain. I'd pull the plug on that one at the very least - disconnecting the battery does little to protect the 50 other inputs/outputs from the computer that doesn't go to the battery. (No, the risk isn't very big as long as welding is done right, but it's a big loss to take IF it goes sideways.)
Reply:Thanks for the input, guys. Now all I gotta do is find the dang efi box. They don't make atvs ez to work on !Miller 211Miller T-bolt ac/dcVictor o/aMilwaukee ChopsawDewalt, Milwaukee minigrinderDelta drill pressDelta bench grinderair grinder, die grinderHF pipe benderHF horizontal bandsaw
