This is my rant against Sears.com/Craftsman.  Abbreviated version! I purchased my first set of craftsman tools in 1971 and still have virtually every single one and I only had to replace 1 ratchet in all that time.  So.........Last April ('08) I tried to order a 'Mechanics Tool Set 'Personalized' from Sears.com for my son's High School gradualtion gift.  I wanted these as I could get my son's name laser engraved on each tool and they wouuld last him a lifetime with somewhat built in theft/loss protection.Anyway, I was told they were out of stock and didn't take backorders or give rainchecks.  I told them the websited listed it as 'in-stock'.  They said the website was out of date.  I said how can this be - yesterday it wasn't on sale, today it is.  They said too bad.  Not available, no rainchecks, no backorders.  I complained to several supervisors at Sears and Craftsman - no avail.  I kept trying over 5-6 weeks only to get the same song and dance from Sears. The website changed the price from on-sale to off-sales at least three times in 5 weeks, always listing the set as in stock.  I got mad and contacted the State Attorney General's Consumer afffairs.  All the could to was send a 'letter of concern' , no enforcement power ????  I tried contacting the 3 local news stations consumer problem investigators but never got a response.  I finally got real mad  and contacted the Federal Trade Commission Consumer Affairs Division.  I spoke to a real hard charger who couldn't wait to investigate.  Last I heard from them ;-(.Short version - I kept trying over the summer the gave uo.Finally two weeks ago I tried again and what do you know - I was successful - no sale price and no free shipping (cost me an extra $100 ;-( ) but I got it.  But guess what - of the 413 pieces, 99 were not 'personalized' and one socket set was incomplete.  I called Sears/Craftsman and they said someone would contact me in '48 hours or less' with authorization and method to return the un-engraved tools to be engraved and would replace the missing socket.  I haven't heard anything in 4 days (in spite of daily check-in by me - yes I can be persistent).  If I hadn't made the committment to my son in the first place I would of told Sears to .$%#&%#*** themselves!
Reply:Your advise to your son in this case will be far more valuable than some hand tools. Good luck to him as he graduates!  Attached ImagesCity of L.A. Reply:And now ya know why Sears is on the point of folding.Went to buy a washer/dryer a few years ago.  Plenty of items on the display floor, but none in stock.  It's ordered, and arrives in a few days.  Great, if you don't have to make a 100 mile round trip to come back and get it.  So Best Buy got my business that day."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:After finally getting to return the 99 ‘un-personalized’ tools I’ve received a response.  ‘We don’t laser etch these particular tools.’  This response I received via a phone call from International Laser Systems, apparently a subcontractor to Danaher Co. (the maker of Craftsman Tools), in which I was told that they would not personalize these tools. All of the tools I sent back were similar to others in the set that were personalized.  These included 39 sockets (1/3 of all the sockets) 20 combination wrenches (about ½ of all wrenches) and 40 allen wrenches.  I’ve contacted Craftsman and so far have just gotten the run-around.  I have some hope.  Ken, the customer service supervisor said he would ‘make this right’.  I explained that I fully expected that the tools I returned would be personalized the same as the others – I think I mention ‘specific performance) (google it).I provided Sears.com with my review (highly dissatisfied) on their website but I doubt they will post it.  See http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00936413000P Reviews (may take up to 72 hours – if ever). In the meantime I plan to let as much of the internet as I can of Sears’ deceptive advertising.  Thanks for letting me rant Attached Images

Reply:Matco impact wrenches are made by IRMatco is owned and operated by Danaher, the same company as craftsman.  Many of their tools overlap, only markings and slight shape changes are made but come out of the same factory.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
