I snagged a decent amount of stainless steel at the scrap yard, all in excellent condition, and have a few projects in mind.  I've never worked much with stainless, and not sure how to go about welding it.  Most of my research suggests it welds just like mild steel, which I'm not too concerned about. My main concerns are which process to use.  I have MIG, stick, and TIG machines, and would ultimately like to use the MIG.  But, I really don't think its worth picking up a bottle of tri-mix just for one or two projects, so looks like I am left with stick and TIG.  Will I be able to use straight Argon with the TIG?  What about stick welding stainless?  Any suggestions?
Reply:Sure, use your straight argon to Tig weld stainless. SMAW works real nice for welding stainless as well.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:SMAW is cheep for stainless keep it in the flat position and it'll look great.
Reply:I've used some real nice out of position fast freeze stainless smaw rods from certanium. They weld real nice but they are very expensive.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Any recommendations on a SS rod to use?  I assume stainless would prefer DCEP, similar to mild steel?
