This is one of my Fav. Projects! I had a stock UTV, chopped it in half and went after it with my torch and some metal. a lot of welding later and this is what I ended up with! We turned it into a short video because it was easier to explain to non fabricators when you see the different stages it went through. It was fun tho!
Reply:Nice build. Sad that you've got enough need for it. but hey, deep woods recovery could be very lucrative. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:Cool.   Nicely done.
Reply:Neat project.I'm curious how a combination of the wrecker and a raised towed vehicle can articulate through turns, when the lift-arm's "T" seems to be a rigid design?
Reply:Thanks Yall!! It wasn't so much that I had a need for it. It was just a neat project to see if I could pull off. We didn't really make a business out of it or anything, we just went muddin and if we could we helped people out of a jam, they bought us drinks n stuff. It was just for fun and to see if I could. It did go through several upgrades after the first few trial runs LOL... the whole trial & error deal. The initial design phase it was rigid but I had to make a pivot point at the bottom of the boom after first run.I also had to make a suspension travel stop and I had to have a special gear reduction made to handle the extra weight I was asking it to pull through the mud. It ended up being a pretty bad machine but it did take a few runs to work out all the bugs. Once they were out tho we ended up taking it to Mud Nationals and we had a hellova time!here's a few more pics after it was altered. a few of the bigger machines I towed back with my tongue hangin out, but we still got 'em back to camp LOL. Reply:Broke my winch on this one (User error because of the previous winch), first real stuck so far, but than again I haven't even owned it a year yet. It was flat ground when I started acrossed it.It got to about two or three inches above the rear tires before I finally did the walk of shame to get my come-a-long and some help. Luckily it was only about 1/4 mile as the crow flies to my house. Attached ImagesThere are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:no need for a new winch, just a new cable. It jumped the spool when I was spooling it in after a long line winch to right the machine from about 170* from the normal stance. It bound up in the spool and I couldn't get it to spool out, so when I got enough out to hook to something, and I tried to use it it snapped the line. User error on both accounts. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:01thump ... Just WOW! LOLthats sludge goodness alright! Looks like yall had a great time! Awesome Pics!ThorsHammer ... have you thought about switching to the new kevlar rope? Better than dealing with steel cable. I had on both winches and liked it alot!Mike~ Like Metal Sharpens Metal; So can we all do for each other, We should never be so proud that we can no longer learn! Please Come By & Visit My Site!
Reply:This is what I'm finishing up building for my quad. built from scratch using 1/8" 6061 ali sheet that I got for free from my brother's shop's scrap pile. still need to add a few more bolt holes for the main skid but it turned out very well if I do say so myself. Reply:Hey Thump!  That looks so cool when it's clean -  - do you spend more time with the pressure washer than you do rollin' around in the mud???
Reply:Thank you ..I do spend a good amount of time cleaning we have three mud toys and its a handful after a day or weekend in the mud I have found that Superclean works awesome I spray it on first let it do its work then rinse off the mud just slides off no hand washing at all...

Reply:01 Thump... great pics! Thanks for sharing!ThorsHammer... have you ever considered trying the kevlar rope instead of cable? I've used and really like it!Mike~ Like Metal Sharpens Metal; So can we all do for each other, We should never be so proud that we can no longer learn! Please Come By & Visit My Site!
Reply:yeah, but the wire is WAY cheaper. so I'll stick with that for now. If I'm going further than the wood around my house than I'm riding with someone else anyway so it's not as big a deal if I do end up getting stuck. There are no problems. There are only solutions.
