OK.....I admit it.....I'm a newbWas welding yesterday on the Scout and ran out of wire. So I figured that this was a great chance to use the Mig portion of the welder. Put some wire in and turned on the gas, adjusted the flow and started welding. Popping and crackling, but welding kinda.......CHANGE THE POLARITY STUPID!!!Figured this out while laying in bed last night. I will change the polarity this morning and finish the job. Reply:Yeah, I have done that one. Just recently actually. I also forgot to open the bottle before welding... THat was a horrendous bead. At least you realized what went wrong.
Reply:I forget to open the bottle about once a month. I TIG for a living and we have a huge argon tank outside. Its on all the time, day or night. I come in, flip on my dynasty and start welding. At home I get about an inch into the MIG weld and realize why its welding so badly. Now, ask me why I check to make sure the bottle is off EVERY time I pass it........(Home)Miller Maxstar 152 (sold)MM211/spool gunLincoln AC 225C(Work)Dynasty 350Powcon 300STLincoln SP-175TWeldlodgic AWS150sWeldlodgic AWS300Custom Resistance seam weldersCambridge Vacuum EB weldersI smell something burning.

Reply:First time we switched to solid wire on the MIG, we dutifully switched polarity, put in the new spool of wire and lit it up. Something was wrong. Turns out, we grabbed another spool of flux core we didn't even know we had and put that in."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder |
