hey guys so I just got this old round top 250/250 from my dad and I hooked up the tig torch to it and ran a few short beads on DC and was very pleased with the outcome, so I have a small piece of 1/8th alum plate and want to know before I try it, what is gonna happen when I scratch start AC on that alum?? I know in the manual it says you can add the HiFreq for alum tig but is it a must? I just want to make sure im not gonna damage anything before I try it, I use the filler metal to strike the arc like Jody from weldingtipsandtricks.com says and wow its very easy and pretty clean for scratch start. normally for tig I use my thermal arc fab 181i, which I have been able to make some ok beads with, still learning but I will clean up some metal and weld out some joints to compare show a pic or two, thanks
Reply:Here is a pic I couldn't wait for anyone to say if it would work or notthis is 1/8th or so diamond plate alum, settings are written on the pic, I didn't have any filler metal but I was impressed that it works you could see the cleaning action and I ran some more beads but I ran a brush over them and you couldn't seem em but I went a lil faster on my travel and the beads had some ripples to em then I slowed down and the puddle got wider and concave and then cracked when it cooled lol gotta pick up some filler now, oh yeah this is done with scratch start on the Lincoln round top 250/250 set to 100amps ACLast edited by chevydyl; 05-21-2013 at 05:25 AM.Reason: forgot to attach pic
