Anyone have one of these???What is your opinion and what thickness of material have you welded with it???
Reply:My buddy has one - I've tried it on tig and it's very smooth. Not a ton of power in stick - but it does work.  It will pop a 20 amp breaker at full power - needs a little more juice. Reply:I miss mine.   Drown in Hurricane Sandy.  Submerged under salt water for a week.Never tigged with mine, just stick. If I found a used one at a good price, I'd snap it up in a second.  Even though I have 3 stick machines now.  It's got a great arc and duty cycle.  Was my goto machine for small repairs.  The entire case with machine and leads weighed in around 25#, so it was easy to lug around and I hung the whole thing on a hook from my garage ceiling.  Never popped a 20 amp breaker with mine at full output.  Can run 1/8" 6011 and cover passes with 3/32" 7018 no problem.  I need to do a small repair at the office this weekend and sure wish I had it.  My 161 is more machine, but not as easy to just toss in the trunk.Never used it on a 15 amp circuit.Last edited by Drf255; 05-25-2013 at 05:56 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Got a like-new one for $50. with a spare set of leads and several boxes of rod.  But quickly resold it to get the 161STL when it was still priced at $650.Edit: Oops, sorry, had the 85.Last edited by Oldendum; 05-25-2013 at 01:30 PM."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:From the experiences of others, sounds like I had one on a weak breaker.Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 05-25-2013 at 05:12 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:For the extra $156 I went and bought a TA 161S. These are 100/220 V capable. I would rather have the extra amps available if needed!Since the TA 186 came out looks like the TA 95S, 161 series and 201 and are the chopping block......I managed to get the last one my LWS had!Last edited by rahtreelimbs; 05-26-2013 at 08:29 AM.
Reply:I'm not sure the 161 and 201 are on the chopping block, but not that many places seem to have them now compared to before.  They are fairly recent introductions.  I may call my local Thermal rep and ask."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
